Cops Seek Man who Injured 2 Officers at Drag-Racing Scene

Police seek help IDing the driver who hit officers investigating drag racing on Route 117 Saturday.

Drag racers were out in force early Saturday on Route 117 at the west end, near Route 9.

Mount Pleasant police told The Journal News that there were about 75 vehicles in the road and on the shoulder. As police arrived, the drivers scattered. Officers noted one car in particular.

Thirty minutes later, Sgt. Michael McGuinn and Officer Luke Oliveri saw that car nearby and tried to stop it.

The driver “restarted the vehicle, shifted into reverse and floored the accelerator,”police Chief Paul Oliva said, according to lohud.com.

Pinned and dragged, both officers were hospitalized with serious injuries.

Now police are asking for help identifying the man, described as white and heavy set, about 30 years old and weighing about 300 pounds, with a shaved head and black-rimmed glasses.
