Cops: Wrong-Way Driver Fell Asleep on the Sprain

State police also allege the man is unlicensed with a previous DWI conviction.

A man who police say drove north in the southbound lanes of the Sprain Brook Parkway faces charges in Mount Pleasant.

On May 8, 2016 at 4:41 a.m., the New York State Police in Hawthorne arrested Rene Sanchez, 29, of Yonkers, New York, for Driving While Intoxicated, a Class E Felony, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the Second Degree, a Misdemeanor, and Unlawful Possession of Marijuana, a Violation.

State Police said they got a report of a wrong-way driver traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of the Sprain Brook Parkway. Troopers said they located the driver sleeping behind the wheel of his vehicle which was parked facing westbound in the southbound right shoulder of the Sprain.

Sanchez was charged with Felony DWI when a criminal history revealed a previous DWI related conviction from 2009.

He provided a breath sample that revealed a Blood Alcohol Content of .15 percent and was arraigned before the Town of Mount Pleasant Court. He was sent to Westchester County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail and scheduled to return to Mount Pleasant town court on May 19.
