Death of Pleasantville Woman under Investigation by Westchester County and Village Police

The Westchester County and Pleasantville Police Departments are investigating the unattended death of a 76-year-old woman who was found dead in her home on Thursday evening.

A mail carrier who came to the home at 79 Grandview Avenue about 4:30 p.m. Thursday noticed that several days’ worth of mail and newspapers had accumulated outside the home. She contacted the Pleasantville Police Department, which responded to check the residence.

A Pleasantville police officer entered and discovered the woman dead inside the residence.

The woman’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. She was deceased for at least several days.

“As a result of decomposition, the determination of the cause of death is pending the completion of an autopsy by the Westchester Medical Examiner’s Office,” Public Safety Commissioner George N. Longworth said.
