Earth Day Awareness & Reusable Bags
Pleasantville Farmers Market is open Saturday, 8:30am - 1:00pm

In view of this week's Earth Day celebrations, we're highlighting the success our community has had in transitioning to the use of reusable bags. February 2 the Pleasantville Carryout Bag Ordinance went into effect at the Market, encouraging the use of reusable shopping bags and requiring fees for new single-use shopping bags. Truth told many shoppers were well ahead of the curve, having regularly used reusable bags since we handed out 500 orange ones on opening day in 2013. Recently Phelps Hospital Northwell Health donated 400 reusable bags to ensure shoppers can always obtain a free one at the Managers Tent. Shoppers also donate reusable bags they no longer need at the Managers Tent so other shoppers may grab one to use. Given all these efforts, accommodating the Ordinance has been easily accomplished. We thank our vendors and shoppers for working together to help this environmentally sensitive step to be implemented so smoothly.

Phelps Health Tip
Lead Sponsor Phelps Hospital Northwell Health shares the following: "Radish tops can be aggressive tasting when mature, but mild when young and tender. If they are the latter, add them to a salad, or shred them and mix with butter and sea salt to spread over sliced bread. If the former, use them in a potato based soup. Radish leaves can be strong tasting, but they are considered to be extremely beneficial to eat".
