It’s hard to imagine what a sensation the “King of Swing” was in his time until you see screaming fans dancing in the aisles to his big-band sound. Here’s the whole story, beautifully told, from Goodman’s Chicago beginnings as a child of Russian Jewish immigrants through his rise to the status of cultural icon. Including early performance footage, rare rehearsal scenes, home movies, and a rich array of interviews.
Q&A and Performance: Will and Peter Anderson. Identical twins and Juilliard graduate students Peter (tenor sax, clarinet) and Will (alto sax, clarinet) are already forces to be reckoned with, performing at New York’s top venues and receiving numerous honors. They’ll talk about today’s jazz clarinet with Mike Holober, Artistic Director of the Westchester Jazz Orchestra, and treat us to a short performance. Will and Peter will be joined by Danny Rosenfeld (Drums) and Mark Shane (Piano).
