Le Rayon Vert

via Burns Center:

May be the finest example of [Rohmer’s] supple and prickly artistry. He blends fiction and documentary with a graceful splendor of Impressionist inspiration, and the actress Marie Rivière brings energy, spontaneity, and involuted passion to the role of Delphine… " (Richard Brody, The New Yorker).
Eric Rohmer's 1986 french film, Le Rayon Vert (or Summer) follows the newly single Delphine (Marie Rivière) who cannot find a holiday companion for the month of August. The film captures Delphine's attempts to find companionship in an empty city, but without having to partake in the banal, predictive singles game. Rivière, who co-wrote her largely self-created role, delivers a captivating performance as a young woman looking for love on her own terms.
