From the Burns Film Center:
One of those rare films that forever changes the way one thinks, Wretches & Jabberers is a window into the extraordinarily rich interior life of two autistic men. Labeled “retarded” as kids, the two “wretches” with limited speech faced a bleak future— and then they learned to communicate with typing machines and were revealed as men of deep intelligence and poetic sensibility. This powerful film—a tale of courage, hope, humor, and struggle—shows how they ultimately refashion themselves as activists and embark on a global quest to change attitudes about disability and intelligence.
