Fall's Here, At The Pleasantville Farmers Market!
Pleasantville Farmers Market is open Saturday, 8:30am - 1:00pm

After our recent summer-like weather, this Saturday will feel like fall. And the Pleasantville Farmers Market will certainly look like fall due to a terrific harvest of squash, crisp apples and fall vegetables. Some hints of summer remain in eggplants, tomatoes and corn, but our days are growing shorter, and our nights cooler, which favors the foods of fall. Eating seasonally, one can feel at peace with the transition when considering the many wonderful fall dishes that are to come.
In addition to the fall harvest, visitors to the Market Saturday can also enjoy a Nutrition Bits & Bites event with Market nutritionist Marina Stopler MS, RD, IBCLC focused on Food Day -- celebrating your role as a Market shopper in supporting healthier diets and a better food system (8:30-12:30). The Rewilding School will make its first visit to the Market as a Kids event host with a series of outdoor education activities, including friction fire kit demonstrations, natural charcoal painting, and crayon leaf rubbings (9:30-11:00). Our Music Series performance is by Mikel Berrier of Les Tappan Zigues playing chansons Francaises - traditional lyric-driven French songs (10:00-12:00). And this Saturday you can pre-register for the upcoming Phelps Annual Apple Pie Contest, held this year on 10/14 (rain date 10/21). To pre-register stop by the Manager's Tent or email info@pleasantvillefarmersmarket.org.

Phelps Health Tip:
Fall Veggies Are Powerfully Healthy
Lead Sponsor Phelps Hospital Northwell Health shares the following tip: "Cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, mustard greens, horseradish, and kale contain the phytochemical indole. Studies show that these foods may help reduce the damage to DNA caused by carcinogens and thus reduce the risk of some cancers".
