Find Your Friend: National Clear The Shelters Day is Saturday
The SPCA of Westchester in Briarcliff Manor will host the broadcast from NBC 4 New York.

BRIARCLIFF MANOR, NY — NBCUniversal owned television stations will broadcast the Clear the Shelters third annual nationwide pet adoption drive on Saturday. And this year, NBC 4 New York/Telmundo 47 will be broadcasting the regional event from the SPCA of Westchester.
More than 80 groups across the Tri-State area will participate in the third annual event Aug. 19. Find out where here.
The nationwide Clear the Shelters initiative seeks to help families find and adopt homeless pets. Since 2015, Clear the Shelters has resulted in more than 70,000 pet adoptions nationwide.

“We are so grateful for the amount of visibility NBC has brought to the ‘Clear the Shelters’ initiative and for advancing our animal welfare mission by leaps and bounds.” said Shannon Laukhuf, the SPCA of Westchester’s Executive Director. “Millions of viewers learned of the advantages of opening their hearts and homes to shelter animals in need of a second chance.”
On Aug. 19, the SPCA of Westchester will offer reduced and/or waived pet adoption fees on many dogs and cats.

“There is nothing like a child’s smile when they meet a new pet for the first time. It is a deeply moving experience. As a station, we are committed to creating even more of these special moments and that is why our news anchors, reporters and WNBC employees are so passionate about connecting homeless pets with loving homes. We look forward to clearing the shelters on August 19,” said Eric Lerner, President and General Manager of NBC 4 New York.
