Food Donation Day!

Place preorders from our vendors Tues, 7:00pm – Thurs, 7:00pm. Then walk up Saturday, 8:30am – 1:00pm, to gather your preorders shop further

This Saturday, 9/25 the Market has its final "buy two, donate one" Food Donation Day of the season. The event highlights the generous, weekly donations our farmers make to help eradicate food insecurity in Westchester. And it provides shoppers the opportunity to buy extra items so they can donate fruit, veggies, bread, eggs, jarred items and more. Representatives will be on hand from the Pleasantville Community Garden (their volunteers collect vendor donations every week) and from Hillside Food Outreach. (they deliver collected food to over 1600 residents in our county). Shoppers can also use Pleasantville Farmers Market Online to make cash donations to support the Pleasantville Community Garden's collection efforts (funds will be used to purchase veggies from our farms for donation). Check out this fun video we made during our Food Donation Day in July!

New vendors Freshly Made (cold-pressed juices), Knot of this World Pretzels (fresh soft pretzels) and Puras Paletas (creamy and fruit based pops) will be in. This is also the first week that Manor Sangria (two blends of traditional, fruit-filled sangria). NOTE: Edenesque (nut and oat milks) will be absent this week, they return on 10/2.

How to pick up preordered items?

  • Early Saturday morning you will receive an email listing all items you preordered.
  • Items preordered on PFM-O are collected at vendor’s tents.
  • Vendors having sizeable walk up lines display a sign highlighting the location to collect preorders (usually near the register). At these vendors you can skip the walk up line.
  • New this fall, emailed invoices clearly display applied payments and credits.

Nearly all producers offer both walk up service and preorder pick up service. Exceptions are Gajeski Produce and Maple View Farm with full walk up service only in summer/fall. (All vendors and products will be again on PFM-O when we start our winter season at the Plaza in December).

Phelps Health Tip:
Lead Sponsor Phelps Hospital Northwell Health shares the following tip for a fruit and vegetable wash from author Suzy Scherr's book The Apple Cider Vinegar Companion: "Fill a clean sink halfway with lukewarm water and add 1 cup of apple cider vinegar. Add your fruit and/or vegetables and soak items for about 10 minutes (less time for fragile berries - 2-5 minutes is fine). Then rinse well".

KNOW BEFORE YOU GO

Pleasantville Farmers Market remains committed to the health and safety of the whole community, including shoppers, vendors, volunteers, and staff. Mask wearing for unvaccinated shoppers (including children) is required, and all shoppers are requested to maintain physical distancing in the marketplace.

Because many our food artisans sell delicious treats that can be consumed at the Market, physically distanced tables and chairs are provided on our grass area for families to enjoy their treats together, mask-free.

Please note these COVID policies:
Masking:

  • Kids under 12 and all other unvaccinated shoppers are required to wear masks while visiting the Market. (If you need a mask stop by the Manager's Tent at the main entrance).

If eating or drinking while at the Market:

  • We ask that unvaccinated individuals (including kids) make use of our grass area where we have physically distanced tables and chairs for enjoying treats and beverages.

Distancing:

  • Please maintain 6' distancing while shopping, especially in busy vendor queues

The Market is monitoring guidance and will provide policy updates as needed.

VENDOR HIGHLIGHTS

Unless otherwise noted, the producers highlighted below have products available for preorder through Pleasantville Farmers Market Online (Tuesday, 7pm - Thursday, 7pm).

Mead Orchards is always innovating. Have you tried their NEW non-alcoholic Sparking Apple Cider? It's made with a delicious blend of apples including Gold Rush.

Ed Trotta of Trotta Foods says they're changing culinary gears to welcome fall. This week they will offer Butternut Squash in Sage Pasta Ravioli, and Sweet Potato Gnocchi. More seasonal items are to come.

Woven Stars Farm is highlighting their lamb shoulder chops saying, "these are a cool-weather favorite, perfect for stewing and braising. This tender cut cooks well with fresh herbs, curry spices or in a tagine".

New vendor starting Saturday: Manor Sangria! This food artisan crafts two traditional sangria blends and they visit on the 4th Saturday of each month. Stop by to try a taste.

Spice Revolution is featuring favorite Autumn spices including apple pie spice, pumpkin pie, NEW secret cinnamon, cloves, ginger, allspice, extra long cinnamon sticks and more. Check them all out in PFM-O!

Pika's Farm Table arrives each Saturday with delicious quiches, soups, side dishes and appetizers for your week's menu. And they create authentic Liège waffles (yeast-based and containing caramelized chunks of pearl sugar, they're perfect for breakfast or dessert or a quick bite at the Market).

Kriemhild Dairy Farms is in Saturday with their delicious milk, chocolate milk, creme fraiche, real buttermilk with cultures, and of course grass fed Meadow butter. They've run out of creamline whole milk at the last two Pleasantville markets despite bringing more each time. To avoid disappointment please preorder your milk!

Red Barn Bakery is creating scrumptious apple cider jelly donut muffins for this Saturday. Yum!

Bobolink Dairy & Bakehouse reports that their stellar cheese Jean-Louis is back. Buy some of this delicious cheese, a Bobolink wood-fired rustic bread, and some apples from the Market for a fall treat!

Little Seed Gardens is giving a shout out to the arrival of fall squash. With summer squash wrapping up, shoppers can expect to see fall favorites such as Butternut, Honeynut (smaller version of Butternut with a rich, sweet, nutty flavor), Autumn Frost (specialty Butternut, creamy and mild), Delicata (a Little Seed favorite, super sweet, caramelizes nicely when baked, great sauteed), and Acorn squash (more mild and savory than Butternuts).

New vendor Knot of this World Pretzels will be in with their fresh soft pretzels made using Certified Organic, NY State flour. Try them plain, flavored with cinnamon sugar, or stuffed with broccoli and cheddar cheese, among other addictive choices.

New weekly vendor Puras Paletas produces small batch creamy and fruit-based ice pops with natural, unprocessed ingredients, organic and locally sourced whenever possible, and free of corn syrup. Flavors include watermelon lemonade, strawberry mango, and chocolate banana.

Simply Planted Greenhouses is in with beautiful mums, drop-and grows, 14" planters, 5" pots with late season annuals, and 1/2 bushel fall baskets for the deck or to hang up. (Walk up service only)

Kiernan Farms has discounts on pork nitrate-free smoked shoulder bacon at $14.50/lb (reg. $16.50/lb). They have discounted their beef sirloin steaks too, at $19.75/lb (reg. $22.50/lb). And if you buy 5 one pound packages of ground beef at $11.75/lb, get $10.00 off the total.

With fall's arrival, Edgwick Farm has new seasonal pairings with its Canterbury soft goat cheese. The sweet pairing, Pumpkin Spice Canterbury, is goat cheese mixed with a fresh, pumpkin compote, a touch of honey and pumpkin pie spices (like the best pumpkin cheesecake you've ever had!). The savory pairing is with classic everything bagel seasoning.

Merchant's Daughter Ciderworks will make their visit for September this Saturday. Check your supply of artisan hard apple cider made from NYS apples!
