Thanks For Your Contributions!
Last Saturday the Market held it's second Hillside Donation Day of 2017. Highlighting the generous, weekly donations our farmers make to help eradicate food insecurity in Westchester (almost 9500 pounds of fresh food so far this year), the event gave shoppers an opportunity to "buy an extra item of produce" to make donations of their own. Representatives were on hand from the Pleasantville Community Garden (their volunteers collect vendor donations every week) and from Hillside Food Outreach (including Kathy Purdy, the Executive Director and Founder of this Pleasantville-based charity which delivers foods to over 1600 men, women and children throughout Westchester County). As for the results, they were incredible! Shopper and farmer contributions totaled 945 pounds of food (a record one day total), with 514 pounds donated by shoppers, and another 431 donated by farmers and bakers. All foods were delivered promptly to recipients. On behalf of the Market, the Garden and Hillside Thanks again for all your contributions!

Phelps Health Tip:
Apple Cider Vinegar
Lead Sponsor Phelps Hospital Northwell Health shares the following: “Apple cider vinegar (ACV) contains acetic acid, vitamin C, and B vitamins. Acetic acid can increase the body’s absorption of important minerals from the foods we eat. Several studies have shown ACV consumption in patients with Type 2 diabetes improved their blood sugar control, insulin levels, and high triglyceride levels. Apple cider vinegar also has various other non-health related uses like hair conditioning, skin care, dental care, pet use and as a cleaning agent (to name a few)”.
