HAPPY THANKSGIVING

Your knives have been waiting for this: Harper Keehn Knife Sharpening this Saturday

You’re supposed to bring dessert?
J&A Farm, Newgate Farms, Madura Farms, Mead Orchards and Breezy Hill Orchards have sweet potatoes, pumpkins and apples --if you’re baking a pie from scratch. Or you can stop by Dutch Desserts, Breezy Hill Orchards, or Bread Alone to pick up a terrific pie or tart.

Gifts to give the host --seek ideas from Maupston Designs (hand spun yarns), The River Garden (dried floral items), Living Edge Designs (unique cutting boards), North Winds Lavender Farm, Conant Valley Jams, Tousey Winery, Dancing Spirits Herbs, Pure Mountain Olive Oil, Hudson River Apiaries, and Drink More Good.

If you are the host --gather ingredients for both satisfying weekly meals and for the holiday from our farms which have abundant cheeses, meats and vegetables at this time of year. Also, plan some easy meals with help from prepared food vendors such as Pika’s Farm Table (quiche, soups), Stefans Pure Blends (stuffed cabbage, pierogies), Go-Go Pops (soups, salads), and Trotta Foods (fresh pasta & sauces).

To further develop your shopping plan use the Market’s interactive map to review vendors in attendance this Saturday.

Phelps Health Tip:
“Reducing the risk of disease, including some cancers, can be as simple as making your diet more colorful. Food chefs and doctors recommend a variety of colorful foods like broccoli, bok choy, Brussels sprouts, sweet potatoes, squash, apples, and cranberries” --all of which shoppers can find at the Market this week.

After Thanksgiving, remember that the Pleasantville Farmers Market is closed on November 29 to prepare for our transition to the warm and cozy Pleasantville Middle School. The Indoor Market opens on December 6th.

This winter please keep supporting regional farms and the food artisans sourcing them for ingredients -- you’ll make a vendor’s day by seeking them out (even more so if you make it a weekly habit). This year the Market will again have the largest selection of winter-growing farms (three of which are Certified Organic) in the county, making it possible to follow Phelps’ advice to eat colorfully all through the winter.

Please note the Indoor Market opens its doors at 9am for business. Vendors need time to prepare to serve you, so we thank you in advance for noting the 9am start time.

Last Visit Of The Season This Saturday For:
J&A Farm, Newgate Farms, Breezy Hill Orchard, Aba’s Falafel, Tousey Winery, Captain Lawrence Brewery, Drink More Good, and North Winds Lavender Farm.

Over 45 Vendors Participating in the Indoor Market:
Next week we will use our newsletter to highlight a terrific line up of vendors present at the Indoor Market, December through May.

Your Knives Have Waited All Summer For This:
Harper Keehn Knife Sharpening will return this Saturday only (just before the Thanksgiving turkey is carved). Knifes will be sharpened at the Market or can be shipped back to you by mail as well.

Can’t Get To The Market This Week?
Sometimes life gets in the way of a leisurely visit to the Market. If you can’t get to the Market Saturday, you can still enjoy much of the good food the Market has to offer by shopping the Pleasantville Farmers Market online through our affiliation with Fresh Nation. Fresh Nation is committed to providing access to the Market’s fresh regional foods, from Market to table - your table. Simply browse our participating farmers and food artisans, and place your order by noon on Friday. Fresh Nation shoppers will hand select your items from Market vendors, then deliver them to your home. Prices are the same as at the Market, plus a small delivery charge. For more information and to explore the Market online store click here.

Seeing neighbors at the outdoor market has always been one of the best parts of summer and fall in Pleasantville. Meeting neighbors at the warm, cozy Pleasantville Middle School is pretty great too (especially with Forty Weight Coffee Roasters joining us indoors). We look forward to seeing you through the winter in the fish line, or the waffle line, or any line where you can continue to enjoy the delicious good time at the indoor, Pleasantville Farmers Market.

Sayin’ It One Last Time:
Mark-et in your calendar:
November 22: LAST Outdoor Market
November 29: Market is CLOSED for transition
December 6: OPENING DAY Indoor Market at the Pleasantville Middle School
