Healthy Life Series Continues in March at Phelps Memorial Hospital Center
Phelps offers the community a wide range of programs on health-related subjects as well as numerous health screenings and support groups

All events are free and take place on the Phelps campus, 701 N. Broadway in Sleepy Hollow unless otherwise noted.
Monday, March 2 - Look Good . . . Feel Better® is a free 2-hour workshop that teaches beauty techniques to women undergoing cancer treatment. The program includes a hair consultation with a professional stylist and a makeup consultation with a cosmetologist. Attendees can take home a complimentary wig and a make-up kit donated by cosmetic companies. The program is offered in partnership with the American Cancer Society, The National Cosmetology Association, and the Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Association (CTFA) Foundation. Tuesday, March 3 - Better Breathers Club – Pulmonary Fibrosis Support Group

Living with pulmonary fibrosis? Do you know someone who is? Come and connect with others in a community that understands. Presented by Susan DiFabio, RRT, Education Coordinator for Phelps’ Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program. From 12 – 1 pm in the Pulmonary Lab (B Level). Registration is required. Wednesday, March 4 - Mind Games is a fun way for seniors to help stimulate their minds and improve cognitive functioning (memory, visual recall, problem solving, focus and speed, and spatial reasoning) by playing group games. In the Boardroom from 2 -3:30 pm. Call 914-366-3937 to register.

Wednesdays, March 4 and 18 - Blood Pressure Screenings Conducted the first and third Wednesday mornings of every month from 9:30 – 11:30 am in the Walkway Conference Room. Appointments are required. To make an appointment, call 914-366-3220.
Thursday, March 12 - The Breakfast Club is a series of free breakfast meetings designed especially for seniors that meets monthly, except for August and December. Each session includes breakfast, a presentation on a healthy lifestyle topic and a light exercise program. This month participants will receive information on balance with Dr. Carmen Budenz, the new director of the Phelps Balance Center. The group meets from 8:30-10:30 am in the Cafeteria (G Level). Thursday, March 12 - Osteoporosis Support and Education A free monthly group program for individuals with osteoporosis, providing education on nutrition, exercise (weight-bearing, strengthening and balance) and activities of daily living. The sessions are held from 11 am to 12:30 pm the second Thursday of the month in the Boardroom (C Level). Call 914-366-2270 to register.
Thursdays, March 12 and 26 – Bereavement Support Group An ongoing support group for adults struggling with the loss of a loved one meets the second and fourth Thursday of the month from 2 – 3:30 pm at the James House on the Phelps campus. Led by Bess Steiger, LCSW, bereavement coordinator. Suggested donation: $10 per session. Call 914-366-3325 or email bsteiger@pmhc.us for information.
Tuesday, March 17 – Senior Steps offers health screenings for seniors. This month’s screening is for people who have difficulty with strength and flexibility in their hands. Senior Steps meets on the third Tuesday of the month from 10:00-11:30 am in various locations throughout the hospital. To make an appointment, call 914-366-3937.
