Heating Oil Tracking Tool Could Help Pleasantville, Briarcliff Residents Save Money

The Westchester County Legislators created the tool to help consumers find out what pricing options are available to heat their homes.

Westchester residents now have a way to find out what other home heating oil companies are charging, thanks to a county website.

Board of Legislators Chairman Michael Kaplowitz said in a video presentation that consumers will be able to track home heating oil prices that will be updated weekly and perhaps shop around.

The tracker can show prices ranging from lowest to highest and vice versa. It also displays contact information, areas that are serviced and, if available, links to the company’s website.

“You can utilize that knowledge to save on a very important commodity—home heating oil,” Kaplowitz said.

He added that consumers could possibly use the information found on the tracker to negotiate with current or future home heating oil providers.

Vice Chairman James Maisano told FIOS1News that the new tracker tool gives Westchester residents an advantage.

“We are hoping to create some competition in the industry and that competition will hopefully lower the price and benefit consumers,” he said.
