Hey! It's March!

Pleasantville Farmers Market is open Saturday, 9:00am - 1:00pm

March is a month of transitions, in season (and hopefully weather), in outlook (often related to weather), and in the Pleasantville Farmers Market preparing to move outside (again, betting on good weather here...). This Saturday shoppers can continue to tip their hat at winter while entering the cozy warmth of the Pleasantville Middle School, knowing hot tea, warm company, and fresh foods await.

March is the final month for our Indoor Market, with the Market moving to Memorial Plaza on April 1. Despite the opportunity to come out of hibernation and enjoy shopping outdoors, it's our indoor growing farmers who will continue to show their season-extending strength for some time. While fields remain dormant, and frost a hazard, the winter-growing methods that ensured abundant, fresh items at the Indoor Market will continue to provide for our early outdoor weeks as well.

Please keep marching out each Saturday to support regional farms and the food artisans that source them. Your purchases are particularly appreciated at this time of year. And delicious home cooked meals are good for morale as we wait out these last few weeks until spring.

Who's In This Week?

View our Map of the Market to see where vendors visiting this Saturday will be located in the marketplace. You can also have a look at our Vendor Page by clicking here -- note that each vendor's "Frequency" is listed, clarifying how often they will visit the Indoor Market each month.

In addition to our Weekly Vendors the following Rotation Vendors will also be in this Saturday:

Phelps Health Tip:

Eat Your Vegetables!

Lead Sponsor Phelps Hospital Northwell Health shares the following: "For centuries, moms have told us that vegetables are good for us. Based on some estimates, they supply over 50% of vitamins C and A, and much of our B6, magnesium, niacin, thiamin, and iron. Eating a variety of seasonal plant foods, which supply these and many more nutrients, can help reduce the risk of cancer and heart disease".

Edgwick Farm: Firthcliffe

Edgwick Farm kept their highlight simple and clear this week: "We have amazing Firthcliffe!" We tasted some last week and they're correct.

What's Fresh? Neversink Farm Carrots

Conor of Neversink Farm reports that his fresh, winter-grown carrots will be back this week.

Cowberry Crossing Farm: 25% OFF Lamb

Cecile Harrison of Cowberry Crossing Farm notes they'll have Lamb Shoulder Chops and Lamb Riblets on a 25% OFF sale. Shoppers can also take advantage of discounts on Bottom Round and Eye Round Roasts.

Yup!

Gajeski Produce still has Brussels sprouts. Get them while they last.

Conant Valley Jams: New Batch Of Marmalade

Conant Valley Jams will be in Saturday with their Blood Orange & Key Lime Marmalade. Get some sliced artisanal bread, and some of Teagevity's loose leaf tea, and you're set for tea time.

Chaseholm: 25% OFF Fondue Cheese Ingredients

At Chaseholm Farm Creamery they've been dabbling in the kitchen, experimenting with their new Swiss cheese: Brown Swissy. They stumbled upon a perfectly simple recipe making the most delicious fondue from a blend of their Stella Vallis and the new Swissy. To share the fun they've pre-packed a blend of these two cheeses, ready to be dropped in the fondue pot. The kit includes their secret recipe, which requires only a few other items from the Market. Kinda like a treasure hunt, for your mouth, that begins at Chaseholm's cheese table. If anyone needs additional motivation to fondue: this week Chaseholm is offering their fondue kit at 25% OFF regular pricing for these cheeses.

Spice Revolution: Two New Items

This week Spice Revolution is featuring two new items. First, their South East Asian spice blend- perfect for fish, shellfish, vegetables skewers, chicken or beef kabob and a lot more. Second is an Applewood smoked sea salt, which is great for beef, pork, lamb, but also adds a smoky, 'meaty' flavor to lentils, tofu and beans.

Kiernan Farm: Discounts On Beef & Pork

This week grass-fed/finished beef Sirloin Tip Steaks are discounted to $16.75/lb and pork Rack Ribs (St. Louis style) are discounted too at $11.50/lb.

Restaurant Week Is Back

The Valley Table's Hudson Valley Restaurant Week runs from March 6 - 19. Enjoy great dining and great deals at more than 200 restaurants throughout the Hudson Valley. No tickets or passes are required, although reservations are strongly encouraged. Hudson Valley Restaurant Week features prix fixe, three-course dinners for $32.95 and lunches for $22.95 (plus drinks, tax and tip). The 2017 Restaurant List is live -- for more information and to make your reservations click here.

Consider Contributing Food

The Market maintains a bin every Saturday so shoppers may "buy an extra item of produce" to contribute to families in need. This week the bin is located in the center of the Market. Volunteers from the Pleasantville Community Garden collect all items at the end of the day, along with donations from farmers, and deliver them promptly to organizations such as Hillside Food Outreach. Since its establishment in June 2014, the Pleasantville Community Garden has donated over 30,000 pounds of fresh food! All this food has gone to kids, adults and seniors who don't have enough. This provides nutrition, which is expensive, but is very needed for people, and our communities, to remain healthy.
