High-Schooler Charged After Snapchat Post

Police searched the school in case there was a bomb.

MOUNT PLEASANT, NY — A video post on Snapchat led to the arrest of a Westchester high school student Monday, according to news reports.

The student, a 16-year-old at Valhalla High School, faces charges of first-degree false reporting of an incident, according to the The Journal News. The girl is alleged to have sent an animated Snapchat video showing a bomb going off above the school.

The Journal News said the Mount Pleasant Police Department searched the school and an officer is there for extra security. Read the entire article on lohud.com

Schools across the nation have been on high alert since 17 people, many of them students, were killed and 16 more injured in a Valentine's Day shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. Threats to schools, many of them turning out to be unsubstantiated, have skyrocketed.

According to The Educator's School Safety Network, there have been 532 school-based threats or violent incidents in the U.S. since the Parkland shooting — an average of 88.7 per school day. In all, 490 schools in 49 states have been threatened or had actual violence happen, according to the group.
