Pleasantville Man Killed Pot Farmer With Hatchet
The Pleasantville resident and confederates killed the grower for whom they worked and fled to Mexico with 100 pounds of marijuana.

PLEASANTVILLE, NY — A Pleasantville man has been sentenced for the murder of a California pot grower for whom he worked. Jeffrey Quinn Settler had hired out‑of‑state residents to trim marijuana plants.
Seven men, including three from New Jersey, violently assaulted him and stole 100 pounds of marijuana, prosecutors said. The robbery and killing took place Nov. 11, 2016.
Kane surrendered to Customs and Border Patrol at the California-Mexico border on Jan. 16, 2017. Kane had been a fugitive in Mexico, when he contacted his family and advised he was “tired of running” and wanted to surrender, according to the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office. His arrest was facilitated through the US Marshals Office and the US Border Patrol.

Michael Andrew Kane, 27, had pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter by use of a hatchet and robbery of an inhabited dwelling while acting in concert with others, the Mendocino County District Attorney's Office said.
He received the maximum sentence of 14 years.
