Investing In A Great Spring

Pleasantville Farmers Market is open Saturdays, 8:30am - 1:00pm

Edgwick Farm is kidding this week and will miss the
Market Saturday. Next week they'll have fresh goat milk.

2018 is underway, and the holidays are behind us. For farmers and shoppers, this month is back-to-work. While spring seems distant to us in January, this is the month farmers invest in the outdoor season to come.

One of the places that helps farmers sustain their investment potential is our indoor market. With under 25% of NYS farmers markets staying open year-round, each indoor market dollar received by a farmer is a key asset in their farm program. Pleasantville's indoor market offers shoppers a way to continue connecting directly with the farms that supply their food. And those farms have really great foods to justify that winter support.

STRIVING TO BE THE BEST, EVERY WEEK

The Pleasantville Farmers Market strives to provide a great experience for shoppers and vendors, every week, year-round. For four years in a row the Market has been among local businesses awarded the honor of "Best of Westchester" by those who voted in Westchester Magazine's annual contest. As a community-based service, we're proud of this feedback. If customers are pleased, then we're fulfilling our mission to our community, farms and food artisans.

The Pleasantville Farmers Market is again one of several farmers markets in the "Best of Westchester" first round voting. Please take a minute to VOTE TODAY for your favorite farmers market and all local, small restaurants and businesses that have earned your loyalty. To begin voting use this link:

Once you have voted, encourage fellow shoppers and family members to vote to help the contest garner more participation.

Also, when visiting the Market Saturday enjoy collecting a set of free Market Coasters created to highlight the Best of Westchester contest.

Phelps Health Tip:

Lead Sponsor Phelps Hospital Northwell Health shares the following: "It is important to decrease consumption of refined, processed and high-glycemic-load carbs, including sugars and refined grains. These are white breads, pizza crust, white rice and kinds of cold cereals – instead, focus on whole grains, fruits and veggies".

THANKS!

Consider contributing food: The Market maintains a bin every Saturday so shoppers may "buy an extra item of produce" to contribute to families in need. This bin is usually located at the Managers Table. Volunteers from the Pleasantville Community Garden collect all items at the end of the day, along with donations from farmers, and deliver them promptly to organizations such asHillside Food Outreach.

Since its establishment in June 2014, the Pleasantville Community Garden has been able to grow, gather and donate a total of 45,755 pounds of fresh food - 16,591 just in 2017! All this food has gone to kids, adults and seniors who don't have enough. This provides nutrition, which is expensive, but is very needed for people, and our communities, to remain healthy.
