Irish Soda Bread Alert!

Pleasantville Farmers Market is open indoors Saturday, 9:00am - 1:00pm

DONNING THE GREEN

St. Patrick's Day provides a great opportunity to gather with family and share a hearty meal. Come by the Pleasantville Farmers Market Saturday for items that compliment a traditional corned beef dinner such as cabbage, potatoes, carrots and other root vegetables. Or consider making the recipe for Irish stew shown below from Cowberry Crossing Farm. Irish color is present at Trotta Foods this week in bright green pastas. Bobolink Dairy & Bakehouse, Orwasher's Bakery and Bread Alone Bakery all have their Irish Soda Breads heading to market. For corned beef sandwiches, be sure to head home with some fresh rye bread from our bakers as well.

Who's in this week?
In addition to our Weekly Vendors the following Rotation Vendors will be in: Bobolink Dairy & Bakehouse, Bombay Emerald Chutney Company, Dancing Spirits Herbs, Demi Olive Oil, Dutch Desserts and Hudson River Apiaries. Look to our interactive Map of the Market to review where all our vendors are located in the marketplace.

Irish Soda Breads Are In

Orwasher's Bakery will have their own take on Irish Soda Bread. And Bobolink Farm Dairy & Bakehouse is in this week and they will have an Irish Soda Bread, made with their farm's buttermilk, local flour and currants.

Save Some Green at Cowberry & Kiernan Farms
Cowberry Crossing Farm will have Rib Steaks 25% OFF this week, as well as discounts on Hamburger Patties and Sirloin Steaks. Kiernan Farm has Beef Organ Meats 33% OFF (tongue, heart, kidney) and discounts on Pork Chorizo Sausage. Kiernan Farms also has a limited number of nitrate-free Smoked Hams -- if you're interested in a ham for Easter reserve yours soon.

Highlighted Recipe:
Slow Cooker Irish Stew
(beef or lamb)
Our vendor Cowberry Crossing Farm has provided a recipe for a Slow Cooker Irish Stew that is easy to prepare in the crock pot. Many of the ingredients listed are available at the Market. Both Cowberry Crossing Farm and Kiernan Farm have stew meats. Olive oil is available from Demi Olive Oil; salt, pepper and bay leaves from Spice Revolution; and potatoes, turnips, carrots, onions and parsley are available though our farms (Gajeski Produce, Cowberry Crossing Farm and Neversink Farm).

Phelps Health Tip: Eat Your Stew!
"For centuries, moms have told us that vegetables are good for us. Based on some estimates, vegetables supply over 50% of vitamins C and A, and much of our B6, magnesium, niacin, thiamin, and iron. Eating a variety of seasonal plant food, which supply these and many more nutrients, can help reduce the risk of cancer and heart disease".

Pleasantville Rotary Club Visiting
The Pleasantville Rotary Club will be visiting the Market Saturday to highlight their upcoming event on March 19: the 16th Annual Westchester Wine Experience. This event is FUN and it is a significant fundraiser to benefit the local and global charitable projects of the Pleasantville Rotary. Stop by to speak to Rotary Club members about the event and how to get tickets, and to learn about additional ways you can support this great community organization.

Edgwick Farm: Fresh Chevre & Farm Maple Syrup
Dan Jones of Edgwick Farm has just wrapped up an early season of tapping their farm sugar maples. To celebrate Dan and Talitha are mixing some of this new syrup with their fresh soft goat cheese for a sweet pairing that tastes of March. This all-natural fresh chevre with maple syrup is a delicious dessert cheese, or the perfect spread on your morning toast or bagel. This cheese also makes a unique topping to apple-stuffed crepes.

Pesto Report
Last week we held a recipe demonstration highlighting our weekly vendor Buddhapesto's terrific pesto. This week we're highlighting two additional pesto options in the room. Pika's Farm Table produces a thick, rich pesto which is noteworthy as the only pesto in the room that is nut-free. Accent a bowl of one of Pika's soups with a dollop of their pesto for added flavor. Also, seasonally, and just starting this week, Trotta Foods produces an Arugula Pesto. His son Gus, who is present each week at our market, can easily recommend a Trotta pasta and recipe to utilize this unique pesto.

Spice It Up
Spice Revolution is featuring a dark chocolate with coconut this week, and their featured spice will be a jerk seasoning mix -- perfect for chicken, fish, pork, potato, lentils and root vegetables.

Pickle Licious Hummus
Are you aware that Pickle Licious has several varieties of homemade hummus? This week they are highlighting Garlic & Lemon and also a Cha Cha Sriracha hummus. Spread on sandwiches, or use as a dip with bread or veggies for a healthy snack.
