JBFC Awarded $6,000 Grant by the Academy

The funds will be used to sponsor filmmaker residencies.

For the second consecutive year, the Pleasantville-based has received a $6,000 grant from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, it announced last week.

According to a statement, the non-profit said it plans to use the funds for filmmakers residences and screenings, ranging from a week in length to three months.

"The Film Center will invite residency applications from professionals working in various film genres and disciplines including animation, documentary, video art, narrative film, screenwriting, sound design, and cinematography," the statement reads.

Additionally, participants' films will be screened at the center, while they will participate in audience Q&As and workshops or demonstrations throughout the residency.

Specifically, "The Film Center has extended invitations to a filmmaker from Thailand, and an Argentine film curator, and is currently in the process of finalizing an artist to appear in conjunction with a Romanian Film Series to be held in late 2011," the statement revealed.
