Try strawberries or apples to add zest to your greens. Tuna and chicken salads also taste great with pieces or slices of apples. Don’t forget to add some herbs such as tarragon or dill for an additional nutritional boost".

NEXT SATURDAY:

BUY TWO; DONATE ONE

Saturday, June 17 the Market will host a third annual spring Hillside Donation Day. Highlighting the generous, weekly donations our farmers make to help eradicate food insecurity in Westchester, this event provides shoppers the opportunity to "buy an extra item of produce" so they may make donations of their own. Representatives will be on hand from the Pleasantville Community Garden (their volunteers collect vendor donations every week) and from Hillside Food Outreach (including Kathy Purdy, the Executive Director and Founder of this Pleasantville-based charity which provides meals for thousands of Westchester residents each year). The last spring's Hillside Donation Day was inspiring: 621.5 pounds of fresh food was collected! Of that, 274 pounds were purchased and donated by Market customers, and 347.5 pounds were given by vendors at the end of the Market. The food was immediately donated to Hillside Food Outreach and other local pantries.

If you're in town this weekend please stop by and add your food donation to this special cause.
