Author of Chinese Mexicans: Transpacific Migration and the Search for a Homeland, 1910–1960, Julia Maria Schiavone Camacho is a member of the Sarah Lawrence history faculty. She received her MA and PhD from the University of Texas at El Paso and specializes in women, gender, and the family, and the Chinese diaspora in modern Latin America and the US-Mexico borderlands. She is also the author of Crossing Boundaries, Claiming a Homeland: The Mexican Chinese Transpacific Journey to Becoming Mexican, 1930s–1960s, which won the Louis Knott Koontz Memorial Award from the Pacific Historical Review and was reprinted in Race and Immigration in the United States: New Histories (Routledge, 2012).
