CORN ROAST &
ZERO WASTE STATION ACCOMPLISHMENT!

Last Saturday 15 volunteers arrived at 7am to shuck the 540 ears of corn that Dobler Farms, Mead Orchards, and Gajeski Produce contributed to the Annual Customer Appreciation Day Corn Roast! Our volunteer team had all cobs shucked in 21 minutes, 37 seconds (a new record)! Our friend Pono Wong roasted all that corn so it could be offered free (with Kriemhild butter!) to shoppers as a thank you for their support of the Market.

Volunteers make the Market run well, while having fun. Young people staff the Market's Zero Waste Station each Saturday, helping shoppers sort their waste into trash, recycling or compost bins. Last week, these volunteers did a fantastic job, not only ensuring all those husks (4 bins worth) were set aside for composting, they also took in a huge influx of cobs, Himalayan Delish dumpling plates & utensils, and the market's other compostable waste -- greatly limiting our event's carbon footprint on one of the busiest days of the year!

If you have a teen in your house interested in being part of our volunteer teams please note the two opportunities below:

Market Intern Program
The Market is accepting applications from area students, grades 8 - 12, for the our fall Intern Program. For information email info@pleasantvillefarmersmarket.org.

The Zero Waste Composting Station is seeking youth volunteers (shifts are valid for community service hours). The composting station helps decrease the amount of trash produced by the Market. To assist a teen to volunteer CLICK HERE and add their name to whichever weekends they can volunteer. If you have any questions you can contact our Zero Waste Station Coordinator Jadyn Serebin at jadyn@serebin.com.

Large round challah (plain or with raisins) can be ordered at Orwasher's tent THIS week for pick up NEXT Saturday, 9/16.
In addition to Weekly vendors, the following Rotation vendors will also be in this Saturday:

  • Bohemian Baked
  • Demi Olive Oil

  • Red Barn Bakery

  • SallyeAnder

Note: Warwick Valley Winery is absent on 9/9.

Lead Sponsor Northwell Health Tip:
"The fewer the ingredients, the more healthful the food. Great advice when it comes to purchasing fresh, seasonal food from regional farms. Tomatoes, peppers, carrots, apples, leafy greens all just have one ingredient: themselves!" Brought to you by Northern Westchester and Phelps, your local Northwell hospitals.

VENDOR HIGHLIGHTS

Demi Olive Oil has a new product from their farm in Greece: Arborgina olive oil! Spanish variety planted in their Greek soil. Used as a finish oil, Arborgina has a more delicate flavor than Demi's standard (Greek) olive oil, given it is very low in acidity (0.02%). Look for the RED Demi label to try out this one of a kind EVOO!

Did you know SallyeAnder uses seasonal ingredients for seasonal soaps? A good example is their Apple Crisp essential soap, which is made with real apples and healthful for your skin.

In the late winter, Edgwick Farm makes a hard goat cheese using a classic cheddar recipe. For each batch, 258 pounds goat milk is turned into 6 wheels of hard goat cheese totaling 25 pounds. The wheels are aged a minimum of six months in the cheese cave. Sackett Ridge hard goat cheese is now available at the Market.

Pura Vida Fisheries has great, late summer seafood selections including oysters, Littleneck clams and mussels, black sea bass, flounder and yellow fin tuna for the grill.

Red Barn Bakery will have sweet treats such as fresh pies, and Organic chocolate raspberry rugelach!

Spice Revolution notes that roasting a chicken is by far the easiest way to make a simple dinner that impresses everyone. Gather poultry from Hilly Acres Farm or Woven Stars Farm and then stop by Spice Revolution for perfect herbs, spices and salts for roasting.

Bobolink Dairy & Bakehouse is highlighting two cheeses that are at peak: their tangy Drumm cheese and a special Cider Amram cheese. Perfect with summer peaches or early apples.

Manor Sangria will be in Saturday with multiple blends of their handcrafted sangrias!
