Man Charged with DWI after Briarcliff Hit and Run

Police said because of a previous conviction, the charge is a felony.

New York State Police from the Hawthorne barracks arrested Eamonn P. Grimes, 41, of The Bronx, for Driving While Intoxicated, a Class D Felony.

Troopers were dispatched to a hit and run auto collision that occurred on the Taconic State Parkway in Briarcliff Manor. Troopers responding to investigate the crash were given a description of the offending vehicle that fled the scene.

A patrol from the Hawthorne barracks observing southbound traffic located the suspect vehicle, a black ford Explorer. Troopers stopped the vehicle and interviewed the driver who identified himself as Grimes. A subsequent investigation revealed that Grimes was intoxicated at the time of the crash.

Grimes was charged with Felony DWI when his criminal history revealed a previous DWI related conviction from July of 2006. He was also charged with leaving the scene of a personal injury auto accident.

Grimes is due to appear in the Town of Mount Pleasant Court on Oct. 22.
