The Market Opens Outdoors This Saturday

Pleasantville Farmers Market is open Saturday, 8:30am – 1:00pm

The Pleasantville Farmers Market is indeed outside again at Memorial Plaza, starting THIS Saturday, 3/14.

We are grateful to the Pleasantville Union Free School District for providing us a warm environment for the Market over the last few months. Moving outdoors now enables the Market to continue as an essential food resource to our community and sustain the livelihood of our farmers and food artisans with a lower potential for interruption.

Statement of Purpose During Covid-19
The Market has always been attentive to food safety, and we’ve responded to the current Covid-19 situation with heightened protocols including portable hand washing stations, effective market-wide use of food safety gloves, and adjustments to the display of food and samples. We love that our event is historically a social one but with no special event programming at this time, our core role remains: provide a safe space for residents to make quick and purposeful trips to get groceries. And our team of vendors are the right professionals to provide food safely. If at any point we're ordered by a public health agency to close a market, we certainly will comply and broadcast that information so you are aware.

Phelps Health Tip:
Lead Sponsor Phelps Hospital Northwell Health shares the following: "There is a good reason vitamin D is called the "sunshine vitamin". When your skin is exposed to sunlight, it makes vitamin D from cholesterol. The sun's ultraviolet B (UVB) rays hit cholesterol in the skin cells, providing energy for vitamin D synthesis to occur".

Two years ago, they experimented by washing cheddar curds in a craft beer (Keegan Ale's Mother’s Milk in this batch) before pressing the curds. Aged two years, they cut a few wheels open this month and it tastes amazing! The result is a nutty, medium-sharp cheddar with a hoppy aroma and taste. They have half pound wedges Saturday at $15/wedge and you can try a taste at their table.
