Modigliani String Quartet Will Perform April 18 at Briarcliff High School

Friends of Music Concerts brings their Spring opener to Briarcliff High School

Chamber music lovers will know that spring has begun in earnest when the Modigliani String Quartet returns to the Friends of Music Concerts stage on Saturday, April 18. The venue for this performance will be the Briarcliff High School Auditorium, located at 444 Pleasantville Road, Briarcliff Manor, not at Sleepy Hollow High School, as originally scheduled. The performance begins at 8pm and parking is free.

A recent favorite of Friends’ audiences, the Modigliani has been called “one of the best quartets in the world” by a German critic, and referred to as “a fab foursome” by theSeattle Times. In 2014 the Quartet became artistic directors of the Rencontres Musicales d’Evian, a summer festival on Lake Geneva in the French Alps, made famous by the cellist Mstislav Rostropovich. Included in the program for the Friends of Music concert will be Mozart’s String Quartet in D minor, K. 421 Claude Debussy’s String Quartet in G minor, Op. 10, and Ernst von Dohnanyi’s String Quartet #3 in A minor, Op. 3.

Four close friends, Philippe Bernhard, Loïc Rio, Laurent Marfaing and François Kieffer, formed the quartet in 2003. Only one year after they began, the Quartet attracted international attention by winning the Frits Philips String Quartet Competition in Eindhoven. The Quartet then took First Prize at the Vittorio Rimbotti competition in Florence in 2005 and won the Young Concert Artists Auditions in New York in 2006.www.modiglianiquartet.com
