Monique Harden - "From Environmental Injustice to Climate Change: How Health Advocates Can Bridge the Divide Between Human Rights and Environmental Protection"
Thursday, October 23 5 p.m. (reception), 5:30 p.m. (lecture) Donnelley Lecture Hall in the Heimbold Visual Arts Center
The 2014-2015 Margaret Keller Distinguished Lecturer Series features Monique Harden, co-director and attorney, Advocates for Environmental Human Rights (AEHR), a nonprofit, public interest law firm in New Orleans, LA, that she co-founded with attorney Nathalie Walker in 2002. Through more than 20 years of successful litigation and advocacy that have helped communities achieve important environmental justice victories, Ms. Harden and Ms. Walker have learned that defending human rights is the best way to achieve a healthy environment for all people. AEHR is dedicated to upholding our human right to live in a healthy environment. AEHR holds companies and the government accountable when this right is violated, and advocates for public policy that supports this right. A discussion will follow the lecture.
