MOUNT PLEASANT, NY — As the new year begins, our local officials are still busy conducting the public's business in plain sight.

There are plenty of upcoming chances to help tend to our democracy close to the roots. Several public meetings are scheduled for this week that affect Briarcliff Manor and Pleasantville.

Ossining town's Planning Board meets Wednesday, at 7:30 p.m. at the John-Paul Rodrigues Operations Center on Route 9A.
The Mount Pleasant town Zoning Board of Appeals will hold a public hearing at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Town Hall on a plan to subdivide a 37-acre property at 715 Sleepy Hollow Road on Pocantico Lake to build 31 single-family houses. The present mansion and caretakers cottage would be preserved. Some neighbors are concerned about what the development, called Meadows at Briarcliff, would do to the health of the lake and the view from Pocantico Lake County Park. Briarcliff Manor's Environmental Sustainability Advisory Committee meets Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
The Pleasantville village Zoning Board of Appeals also meets Thursday, starting at 8:15 p.m.
FYI: A joint meeting of the Indian Point Decommissioning Oversight Board and Indian Point Closure Task Force will be held Thursday at 6 p.m. in Cortlandt Town Hall, 1 Heady St.
