NYC Democratic Club Stages Protest at Governor's Westchester Home

Candles for Clemency brought protesters from New York City to Mount Kisco and New Castle.

The New York City-based Jim Owles Liberal Democratic Club held a protest march and vigil in front of Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s house in New Castle on Saturday.

The club, has endorsed Zephyr Teachout, Cuomo’s opponent in the Democratic primary Sept. 9.

“NY Gov Andrew Cuomo is heartless– after nearly four years in office he hasn’t granted a single petition for clemency!” said William Dobbs in an email explaining the purpose of the march.

As lohud.com blog Politics on the Hudson pointed out, Cuomo did grant pardons in 2013 for people who had completed their sentences but whose criminal convictions had affected their rights.

Celebrities at the protest included Katherine Erbe from “Law and Order” and Catherine Curtain from “Orange is the New Black.”
