Obituary: Former Thornwood Fire Commissioner

Alexander “Sandy” Fariello, 96, of Thornwood, NY, passed away on July 18, 2012 in Bonita Spring, Florida.

He is survived by his daughters Ceil (Nicholas) DiCioccio of Ossining, NY and Diane Fariello of Long Beach, Ca. Grandchildren Lisa DiCioccio, Nick (Nancy) DiCioccio, Alexis (Andrew) Mauchan and Stephen Farrell. Great Grandchildren Nicholas, Alexander, Antonia DiCioccio and Avery Mauchan. Pre-deceased by his wife Rose and daughter Janet Farrell.

He was the owner of Sandy’s Scrap Metal in Thornwood, NY, retiring in 1982. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the US Army as a Sgt. Sandy was a Past Commissioner of the Thornwood Fire Department, a member of the American Legion, Elks, Italian American Club and the Moose Lodge.

In keeping with his wishes, following a private cremation in Florida, a Mass celebrating his life will be held at the , Pleasantville, NY, on Saturday, Aug. 11, 2012 at 10 a.m.

Entombment will immediately follow at Rose Hills Memorial Park, Putnam Valley, NY.
