Varying between sunny days and lots of cold, rainy ones, it seems like we're still trying to encourage spring to arrive. Farmers are biding their time, eagerly preparing for the day they can get outside and plant (it snowed on many farms last Friday night!). Nevertheless, thanks to our innovative winter growing farms, the Pleasantville Farmers Market has fresh, colorful foods to brighten your menus. Rock City Mushrooms produces shitake and oyster mushrooms. Neversink Farm, Cowberry Crossing Farm and Gajeski Produce have indoor-grown greens and shoots as well as scallions, beets and carrots. Mead Orchards and Wright's Farm have a variety of crisp apples. Chaseholm Farm Creamery and Bobolink Dairy & Bakehouse have cows milk cheeses, and Edgwick Farm has goats milk cheeses (and fresh goats milk too). Orwasher's Bakery and Bread Alone Bakery have rustic loaves that go well with a hearty soup which you may get from Pika's Farm Table or Go-Go Pops. Overall, if trying to improve your outlook on spring, seek the cheer one gets from delicious meals by shopping at the Market. That kind of direct support is very warming for farmers and food artisans at this time of year too. And if you happen to be observing Passover, check out some of the holiday highlights below.
