Pasta and Mushrooms

PASTA con FUNGHI

The Pleasantville Farmers Market has both: fresh pasta and fresh mushrooms, every week, thanks to our vendors Trotta Foods and Madura Farms. Recently we've suggested using Trotta's pastas to compliment stew recipes. This week we thought to give pasta its own time in the spotlight with a recipe from Ed Trotta. Dan Madura has complimented Ed's effort by offering a great sale on shitake and oyster mushrooms. One of the pleasant parts of the Pleasantville Farmers Market is a tradition of vendors working together to make the Market better. Of course, the other thing Ed Trotta's recipe and the Market are about is deliciousness.

Highlighted Recipe:
Pasta con Funghi
Ed and Chris Trotta are proud of their pasta, but even prouder of their kids. Their younger son Gus helps at the Market in the summer, their older son Luca is "pasta expert-in-residence" every Saturday at the Indoor Market, and (perhaps to the chagrin of both boys), their oldest child Jovienne is drawing praise for her studies in Boston where she is learning international business. Their kids have in common an experience of growing up in a family business which has remained successful since 1955 by developing new methods along the way. The Trotta's fit right in at the farmers market as they source regional egg farms to produce their many fresh pastas. They've developed a new gluten-free pasta which is now available. And this summer they plan to introduce homemade riccocotta and mascarpone cheeses. In addition to their pastas, the Trottas produce a dozen or so sauces, many with ingredients sourced from fellow vendors. Farmers Markets have always been about knowing the producer of your foods. At Pleasantville its extra special that you get to meet most of the family that made your pasta.

Shitake and Oyster Mushrooms on Sale!
Dan Madura has discounted both mushrooms used in Ed Trotta's recipe by over 30% this week. Swing by Madura Farms early to get a generous handful. Then stop by our other vendors to get additional ingredients. To review the full recipe click here.

Business Supporters Program

Fundraising provides an important contribution to the Market's operating funds, ensuring it can continue to showcase a diverse and unique selection of farm fresh, regional products for Village residents. Support of the Market by area businesses is gratefully acknowledged through our Business Supporter Program. Supporters are listed on our Kiosk at the Market, and on our website with live links. Please visit the Supporters page to see our current Business Supporters, consider supporting them with your patronage, and use the email link there to send a message if you would like to have your business join this program as well.

New Supporter This Week: PCTV
The Market welcomes PCTV as a new Supporter of the Market. PCTV76 provides our community with access to broadcasts from our schools, local government and public community channels. They also provide production services in studio and on location. Please note that their upcoming fundraiser event, in Honor of William F. Flooks Jr., is on May 3rd 2014. For more information on the event or PCTV click here.

What Vendors Are In Tomorrow?
Red Barn Bakery and Conant Valley Jams will each make an extra visit. Review all vendors in attendance at tomorrow's Market by checking our up-to-date, interactive Map of the Market.

Simply Planted Greenhouses
(formerly Eden Farms Greenhouses) will return tomorrow with beautiful combinations of cold tolerant annuals. They'll have plantings in decorative baskets for the dining room table, or in pots for planting.

Healing Home Foods Is Now In Weekly
We are pleased to report Healing Home Foods will visit weekly for the remainder of the indoor market, and as well for the upcoming outdoor market season.

Get Out And Taste the Valley
The Shawangunk Hudson Valley Wine Trail has their annual Pasta Primo Vino event April 12 & 13. Sample the scenery, the pasta and some great regional wines. Market vendors Warwick Valley Winery & Distillery, Adair Vineyards, and Whitecliff Vineyard are among the 14 wineries participating.

Next Week's Highlighted Recipe?
Mrs. Rogovin's Mouth on Fire Passover Horseradish. This pungent root is a key part of a Passover Seder plate, and Mrs. Rogovin's recipe for the seder ritual delivers a memorable taste!

When Is The Market Moving Outside?
The Market remains indoors all April and half of May, then moves outside after a one week break. Here are some dates to mark in your calendar:
May 10 - LAST INDOOR MARKET of the season
May 11 - MARKET CLOSED for transition
