Patch Picks: What Dad Really Wants for Father's Day

Dad can become a rock star, spend the weekend in movie-land or sip a special wine.

A silk tie, a well-tailored shirt or comfy slippers are all fine gifts for your dad, but if you think he is ready for a change of pace, try some of these offerings that are available just around the corner.

Dennis Rivellino has been teaching guitar, mandolin, bass, piano and ukulele at his Mountain Road studio for more than two decades. Rivellino has a special affinity for teaching adults, whether they are picking up an instrument for the first time or trying to reconnect with the musical side of their personality.

Rivellino offers morning, afternoon and evening instruction Monday through Friday. He takes some Saturday appointments as well. One-on-one sessions are held in Rivellino’s recording studio which offers an environment that is conducive to learning with fewer distractions and more teaching aids than lessons in one's own home.

Rivellino will gladly teach via Skype or iChat for dads who must travel or can’t break away from home. 914-769-5734 or DRivellino@verizon.net.

How cool would it be if your dad was in a rock band? The Rock Band Workshops for adults at the Mike Risko Music School in Ossining are offered in the evenings. They consist of band rehearsals once a week and then a gig, featuring dad and his bandmates playing a gig that you, your family and his friends can attend. With such busy schedules, it can be hard to put a band together, run rehearsals and plan gigs.  Risko make it easy by doing all the work. All dad has to do is show up with his instrument and play. 914-762-8757.
