Lead Sponsor Northwell Health Tip:
According to Marissa Licata, RD, a dietitian at Northwell Health's Katz Institute for Women’s Health, "Healthy bones need a well-balanced diet rich in low-fat dairy, fish, fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and healthy fats (like olive oil). Getting enough calcium is the name of the game here – women under age 50 need 1,000 mg of calcium each day and those over 50 should aim for 1,200mg a day." Brought to you by Northern Westchester and Phelps, your local Northwell hospitals.
VENDOR HIGHLIGHTS
Awwwwww! Cara of Edgwick Farm with the kids...
(Edgwick returned as a weekly vendor last week)
The cold weather means Maple View Farm will not have products set out for walk up shopping -- so preorder to obtain what you want (ie tender mesclun, baby spinach, fresh cilantro and more). Preorders are kept warm in the farm van until you collect your items.
Mead Orchards (also preorder only this week) has apples and fresh apple cider. Their apples are kept in controlled atmosphere storage so varieties like Evercrisp (a cross between Honeycrisp and Fuji) can stay crisp and good well into the spring -- the name says it all! And preordered apples are kept warm in the farm truck until collected.
Edgwick Farm is back at the Market after time away to kid baby goats. Fresh goat milk, goat-gurt, ri(goat)ta and fresh soft goat cheeses are all back in production now that the milk is flowing again.
Spice Revolution is featuring featuring cozy curries -- the perfect seasoning for roasting veggies or making soups, stews and broths. Featured spices include tandoori, vindaloo, piri piri and more. Find them in the curry/Mideast section of their PFM-O store.
Bobolink Dairy & Bakehouse is also back after being out all January. You can again shop for their artisanal cheeses produced with milk of their grass-fed, free-roaming cattle, and delicious rustic breads.
Trotta Foods offers fresh pastas, delicious pasta sauces, and a diverse line of soups and heat-and-eat meals. To get the big picture browse their PFM-O store.
Keep Teagevity and BeanLuv in mind to enjoy a hot cup of perfect tea or coffee, either at the Market, or to stock up for your home pantry. They also have prebottled iced tea packed as "Tea2Go".
RESOLVE TO
GET INVOLVED!
Pleasantville Farmers Market is a community-based, volunteer-run organization -- JOIN US!
Would you believe that the Market is almost entirely run by volunteers? We need help on Saturdays in the marketplace – everything ranging from helping with music performances, sitting at the Manager’s Table to help customers, walking the aisles of the Market to answer questions, and, for those early birds, setting up the Market before everything gets started. In addition, we have many special events that need volunteer support – kids events, culinary events, special community events. No matter your interest, we have a volunteer opportunity for you.
