Playing Around with Winter Menus!
Place preorders from our vendors Tues, 7:00pm – Thurs, 7:00pm. Then walk up Saturday, 9:30am – 12:00pm, to gather preorders and shop further

Don't shy away from getting creative with your winter menu. The apparent constraint of cooking with seasonally available ingredients opens a door on how individuals, and cultures have approached the same opportunity. And of course, the opportunity has always been for a delicious meal.
Case in point, food journalist and author Mark Bittman's West African Peanut Soup with Chicken uses items mostly available now at the Pleasantville Farmers Market. With kale*, garlic, onions and sweet potatoes from Gajeski Produce, chicken from Hilly Acres Farm, SOVA Farm** or Woven Stars Farm**, cayenne, salt and pepper from Spice Revolution, and a jar of peanut or nut butter from Peanut Principle, you're set to produce a hearty, healthy and fun winter dish.
- (*Maple View Farm returns on 3/4 and has collards and (frozen) summer tomatoes that are also ideal for this dish)
- (**broth used in the dish can be sourced from SOVA Farm or Woven Stars Farm)

Lead Sponsor Northwell Health Tip:
February is American Heart Month, highlighting cardiovascular health. Where do sweet potatoes fit in? Eating potassium-rich sweet potatoes helps promote a healthy heart. Higher potassium intake allows you to excrete more sodium, lower your blood pressure, and reduce your risk for heart disease according to the American Heart Association. Brought to you by Northern Westchester and Phelps, your local Northwell hospitals.
VENDOR HIGHLIGHTS
As we celebrate Black History Month it's pretty cool to see our own Preston Powell, aka founder of Teagevity, aka the "retired music professional and martial artist now in the tea business" featured in this CBS2 spot! As Preston says, "Don't buy tea from strangers." See him and his excellent teas every Saturday at the Market!
Mead Orchards has plenty of apples and fresh apple cider. Their apples are kept in controlled atmosphere storage so varieties can stay crisp well into the spring. This week: Macoun apples are back in PFMO -- they were just taken out of storage and they’re excellent -- as crisp and tasty as in October.
Turnabout! Certifed Organic Chaseholm Farm Creamery is back as a weekly vendor for this month. They're highlighting that their Red Beard is back too (smear ripened cheese washed with hard apple cider).
Gajeski Produce has fresh spinach, kale, lettuce greens, leeks, roots veggies, onions, shallots and more. (With Maple View Farm out until 3/4, Gajeski is the one to source for veggies in February).
This week Bobolink Dairy & Bakehouse will offer their cheeses in PFMO and at the Market, but not breads (due to work being done on their wood-fired oven).
This week Spice Revolution is featuring a 25% OFF SALE on their Blackened Cajun spice, in all sizes to celebrate Mardi Gras! The perfect seasoning for fish, chicken, beans, lentils, stews, mushrooms, potatoes, pork, beef and root vegetables. Easy to find in PFMO -- preorder some tonight.
Kriemhild Dairy Farms will be in with their full line of premium, Organic, grass-fed dairy products, including butter, flavored butters, creme fraiche, milk, chocolate milk, and real buttermilk with live cultures. They ask that shoppers preorder to help the farmer know what to pack!
Edgwick Farm is sharing that they've made up one of our favorite goat's milk cheese pairings: Maple Chipotle Canterbury.
Pie? Noble Pies is back this week with their line of sweet and savory options.
Margery of Conant Valley Jams is having some fun with President's Day weekend by highlighting her Cherry & Merlot Jam. Certainly suggesting George Washington should not have cut down that cherry tree.
Warm up while shopping. Enjoy a Knot of This World Pretzel from their grill, a SOVA Farm grilled chicken sausage sandwich, or a hot cup of tea or coffee from Teagevity.
Cooper's Daughter Spirits will be in with their Black Walnut Bourbon, a one-of-a-kind bourbon, aged in a cask used to hold black walnut syrup tapped from trees on the farm.
Hudson Valley Duck Farm brings to market rendered duck fat. With a higher smoke point, and a rich complex flavor, duck fat is considered essential in many cuisines. Hudson Valley Duck offers a 16 oz. container and a new 7 oz. one. Here's an article from 2016 on just this topic.
Out of Whitecliff Vineyards wines? You can stock up this Saturday!

IN THE COMMUNITY:
Pace Wellbeing Fair
Last week Pleasantville Farmers Market was present to support Pace University’s first Wellbeing Fair, meant to spread the word about the University’s wellness initiative to benefit students, faculty, and staff. Marvin Krislov, President of the university also signed the Okanagan Charter, an international charter for health promoting universities and colleges. It was great to celebrate among over 40 groups (including our Lead Sponsor Phelps Hospital) the ways we’re all seeking to contribute to various aspects of wellness in our local community.
