Pleasantville Cancels 2020 Pool, Summer Camp Season
The complexities of operating a summer camp and pool in the midst of a pandemic would be too much even if state officials authorized them.

PLEASANTVILLE, NY — Because of the new coronavirus pandemic, summertime in Pleasantville will lack two traditional pieces in 2020: day camp and swimming pool.
"The overall health and well-being of our residents cannot be assured in camp and pool environments due to COVID-19 and the operational requirements of social distancing, constant effective sanitization, and policy enforcement," the village trustees said in a note to residents.
Anyway, at this point, they pointed out, local municipalities are not authorized by New York State to proceed with camps or open public pools.

They hope to provide any alternatives for solitary, small group or scaled-back recreational activities.
Village parks and facilities continue to be maintained for permissible activities as per the guidance provided by the state and Westchester County.

"We fully understand that summers SHOULD be full of fun, friends and long enjoyable days at the pool and camp. The Village does do not make this decision lightly, and shares in the community’s sadness," they wrote. "Please know that this year has and will continue to be full of compromises from what we know as 'normal.' However, it is because of this determination and commitment to staying the course that we are as hopeful as ever that we can return to warm weather fun in 2021."
