Community Corner

Pleasantville Farmers Market is 25!

Place preorders from our vendors Tues, 7:00pm – Thurs, 7:00pm. Then walk up Saturday, 8:30am – 1:00pm, to gather preorders and shop further.

This Saturday, 9/3, Pleasantville Farmers Market will celebrate 25 years of providing a delicious good time to the surrounding community. We're so grateful to the shoppers, producers, volunteers and municipal partners that have supported us during our first quarter century in operation!

The Market will be in party mode Saturday:

  • 9:30am -- the Annual Customer Appreciation Corn Roast is back (corn provided by Dobler Farms, Gajeski Produce, & Mead Orchards).
  • 10:00am -- we'll have some acknowledgements made by the Westchester Board of Legislators Minority Leader Margaret Cunzio, Pleasantville Mayor Peter Scherer and other special guests.
  • All morning -- kids and adults can get free Market stickers, temporary tattoos and coasters from our special event tent near Pickle Licious.
  • And Saturday will have a holiday harvest and beautiful weather!

Thank you so much for helping the Market remain successful over the years. We promise to continue to create an experience worthy of your support!

  • Dobler - 8 lbs for $10 in mkt & in PFM-O
  • Mead - 25 lbs for $35 (1/2 bushel) - PFM-O Only
  • Wrights - 25 lbs $30 (1/2 bushel) - PFM-O Only

Kiernan Farm has a 40% OFF SALE on beef London Broil steaks at $13.00/lb (reg. $22.50/lb). Their pork St. Louis style rack ribs are discounted to $12.00/lb (reg. $17.00/lb). Also, buy five 1lb packages of ground beef at $13.00/lb to get $10.00 off the total.

Spice Revolution is again featuring fresh vanilla beans! They encourage shoppers to create their own vanilla extract for Autumn and holiday baking -- but you have to start soon. Nothing can match the flavor of real, fresh Tahitian vanilla. Homemade extract is simple and inexpensive! Individual beans and packs of 2 are available in Spice Revolution's PFM-O store.

In honor of the Market's 25 years, Woven Stars Farm is having a 25% OFF SALE on their smoked, nitrate-free sliced deli ham -- all ready to layer on your favorite sandwich. Or pan-fry until crispy and serve for breakfast, or on top of your favorite fall soups.

Edgwick Farm has an anniversary too! Its their 10th anniversary and they're offering a very special item to celebrate. Made in July 2012, during Edgwick Farm's very first year in production, this limited batch of ten-year aged Sacket Ridge Goat Milk Cheddar is sharp, but still smooth and buttery, with great nutty flavors and a firm, almost crumbly texture that has crunchy calcium crystals. It will be the star of your cheeseboard!

Simply Planted Greenhouses is back with beautiful fall combos. Stop by to see their selection for the upcoming season of Drop-n-Grows, bushel baskets, 5" annuals and more.

3x3 Kitchen Provisions will be in Saturday with wheat-free loaves such as their chickpea boule and olive & rosemary loaf. They'll also have sweet items such as a chocolate bundt cake and peach pie. Check out PFM-O to see all their items in advance.

SOVA Farm is featuring Muscovy Duck parts with a 15% discount on Saturday. Pastured 24/7 with a pond for swimming and drinking every day, and no fences or confinements of any kind (farm dogs keep them well protected). SOVA will have boneless breasts with skin, and whole leg quarters. They also offer duck bone broth which is richer than chicken broth. Muscoys have a rich flavor and minimal fat (though the fat is something to savor -- use for roasting fingerling potatoes to go with duck confit!) Click here for a delicious Melissa Clark recipe for Duck Confit. The recipe calls for 8 legs, but 4 will do nicely, and either fits into a 12" skillet or pan.

Conant Valley Jams will have two new jams this week: a Peach & Chardonnay, and the return of their annual Fig & Mandarin. Place either on your cheese board to celebrate the holiday weekend.

Fjord Vineyards and Cooper's Daughter Spirits will both be in Saturday. Check out the work of these great producers in PFM-O tonight or stop by there tents Saturday for a sample.

DONT THROW IT OUT!

As of 8/27, all trash cans now highlight that shoppers can keep the Market clean and green by walking their waste items to a NEW zero waste station (next to Pickle Licious). This new program at the Pleasantville Farmers Market uses a similar approach to that seen at the Pleasantville Music Festival. At the Market's waste station, high school volunteers assist shoppers in sorting items into three bins (compostable food scraps, recyclable items, and trash). The Village of Pleasantville supports this program by collecting sorted items at the end of each market day (the Village has an ongoing food scrap program for residents). Please participate in this effort so we can see it succeed!
