Pleasantville in a State of Emergency

The Village of Pleasantville is now in a state of emergency, Deputy Mayor Mindy Berard declared today.

What does this mean for village residents?

• No traveling on public roads, streets and sidewalks unless in an official capacity or for safety/evacuation purposes or authorized to do so by police or Berard.

"This ORDER is necessitated by the imminent threats posed by severe weather. It affects the entire incorporated limits of the Village of Pleasantville, Berard wrote in a community email. "This order shall take effect IMMEDIATELY and shall remain in effect until removed by me. Failure to obey this order is a criminal offense, punishable by law under New York State Executive Law § 24(5)."

As seen in the photo to the right, Pleasantville's Parks and Recreation staff were out early today draining Nannahagan Pond to help avoid flooding as the rains begin to come down harder in the village.

"The Village is committed to doing everything it can to lessen Sandy's impact on our Village and its residents," noted Village Trustee Jonathan Cunningham, who provided the photo. "Please help our Parks, DPW, Police, Fire, Ambulance, and local officials in their efforts by staying indoors and off the streets until the storm passes."
