PLEASANTVILLE, NY — Village officials updated residents on the coronavirus pandemic and its local appearances and implications.

On Wednesday, they reported that everyone is out of quarantine two weeks after two priests at Holy Innocents tested positive for the coronavirus. To this point, no infections have been connected to them. About 400 parishioners were exposed to them during Masses and a First Communion event. A third person at Holy Innocents, a lay staff member, did get sick but was not involved in the large group activities.

"It was reported that mask and social distancing compliance at the masses was 100 percent, which highlights how effective these measures can be at curbing the spread of this contagion," village officials said. "Masks are perhaps the most important tool in our fight against COVID. Remember to wear a mask, watch your distance and wash your hands."

Two weeks ago the total active cases in Westchester was 444 with 3 active cases in Pleasantville. One month ago total active cases in Westchester was 371 with 1 active case in Pleasantville.

The Westchester County Department of Health reports that some of the recent increases are related to summer travel and college-aged students. Typically, a college student who tests positive will have their case attributed to whatever address is listed on their insurance card.

On Thursday, the village sent out an email reminding everyone about the guidelines for using the village's playing fields.

Everyone must wear face coverings (over the nose and mouth) on the field and sidelines, including players, coaches, trainers and spectators.

Players may take temporary mask breaks off-field when socially distanced at a minimum of 6 feet and under the direct supervision of coaches or recreation staff.

If a participant cannot tolerate a mask for medical reasons, they must provide the event organizer with documentation from a healthcare professional. This documentation does not need to identify the medical condition, but must verify that it prevents use of a mask.

Village Hall is open to the public. Safety precautions are in place to protect the public and employees. Entry to the building will be provided by calling the specific department in which you seek to visit. Please remember that most business with the Village can be conducted online or over the phone. A drop-box has also been placed in the Police Department lobby. The Village’s contact directory can be found here: https://www.pleasantville-ny.gov/contacts-directory

Local governments and businesses are responsible for enforcing NYS COVID 19 regulations, village officials said. The Village continues to educate and warn violators, and act upon complaints. Please report social distancing violations to the Police Department at 914-769-1500 or 914-769-1989.
