Pleasantville Mayor's Update — 5 p.m. Monday

More gas available, a look at the week's weather forecast and more Pleasantville updates.

From Pleasantville Mayor Peter Scherer:

CON EDISON POWER OUTAGES

We had another massively frustrating day arguing with Con Ed. They are unable to give us any specifics about where they are working and when our residents can expect to see power restored. We've seen no progress today and still have outages in many neighborhoods... my own among them. Our Public Works crew has long since completed the work required to provide access to affected neighborhoods, and we are standing by to assist their crews as needed.

Based on today's conference calls with other municipalities, the frustration is widespread. Con Ed reports that they focused today on critical facilities, nursing homes, schools, polling places and "feeder" lines that serve large areas. Those are understandable priorities, but that's been the story for several days now.

We have zero information from Con Ed about what to expect tomorrow and the days to follow. The lack of information is utterly unacceptable, and we're pressing them constantly on Pville's behalf, in every way we can.

POLLING PLACES

The Board of Elections reports that everyone will vote tomorrow at their NORMAL POLLING PLACES.~All are promised to have power restored or be running on generators.

GAS SUPPLIES

Gas supplies were better in Pville again today, with the County reporting that supplies are flowing from distributors.

WEATHER REPORT

It now seems likely that we will have bad weather midweek...with rain, wind and possible sleet/snow. That's grim news for everybody who is already cold, and it won't help the crews working on trees and power lines.
Daytime warming centers are available at the library and at the Pace Campus Center, and an overnight shelter is open in Mount Pleasant Town Hall (info at 769-1941). If you are aware of any neighbors who may be at risk as the cold continues, please let us know via email reply to me (pscherer@me.com) or by calling Village Hall at 769-1940. Many area houses of worship have opened their doors for warming as well.

GENERATOR NOTES

As bad weather approaches, be careful about using portable generators in wet conditions. Many generators should not be exposed to rain, and wet electrical plugs present obvious risks. Refer to your manuals to prepare for rain.
VILLAGE SCHEDULES

Sanitation, recycling, yard waste and leaf pick-up are on normal schedules this week. All Village operations are open tomorrow (Election Day).
Amid these trials, people have been helping all around the Village - neighbors offering to cook for those without power, church dinners for all, Sunday movies and football broadcasts at the Burns Media Lab, Pace students volunteering, etc. Thanks for all of that, which has made a difference to lots of people.
