Proposed $57.7M Briarcliff School Budget On The Ballot May 16

Money to replace the deteriorating service driveway that wraps around the Todd School is in the spending plan.

BRIARCLIFF MANOR, NY — The 2023 budget and school board vote is May 16, and one seat is up for election on the Briarcliff Board of Education.

Trustee Tony Sammi is running for re-election.

The proposed spending plan of $57,719,409 is $1,439,001 or 2.56 percent higher than the current budget. District officials said they were focused on fiscal prudence.

The primary drivers for the increase:

  • Health Insurance – an 12.7 percent increase for employees and retirees
  • Teaching –Maintaining and reducing class sizes with increase enrollment in certain grades.
  • Instructional Furniture - Replace all HS and MS related-arts furniture and outfit all Todd classrooms with new classroom furniture.
  • Operation, Maintenance & Security – Security film installation districtwide. Utilities increasing 25 percent.

Money to replace the service driveway that wraps around the Todd School building is also in the spending plan.

"This driveway has been in disrepair for years and cannot be addressed in a larger capital improvement project," district officials said in the budget book.

The tax levy is expected to rise just 0.49 percent, which is below the state's tax cap, set at 2 percent for the second straight year.

A budget hearing is scheduled for May 4.

Voters may register online with the New York Department of Motor Vehicles, or by mail through the County Board of Elections or any weekday between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the District Clerk's Office, located in the District Office, 45 Ingham Road, Briarcliff Manor NY. The last date to register for the School Budget Vote/Annual Election is May 15.

Applications for absentee ballots are available at the District Clerk’s Office, online at the district’s website, or you may call 914-432-8110 to have an application mailed to you.

Absentee Ballot applications must be received in the office of the District Clerk by 5 p.m. on May
15.

Completed applications must be received by the District Clerk at least seven days before the election if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter, or the day before the election if the ballot is to be delivered personally to the voter or the voter’s designated agent.

Absentee ballots must be returned to the District Clerk's Office by 5 p.m. May 16.
