Things are ramping up at the Pleasantville Farmers Market. Wild ramps (a.k.a. wild leeks) have emerged as proof that spring is here. This Saturday Cowberry Crossing Farm, Yellow Bell Farm, Neversink Farm and Krazy for Kazu's will have ramps for sale (and next week Conant Valley Jams will have their first batch of wild ramp pesto). The Market now has an excellent variety of fresh herbs, greens, spinach, chards, spouts, as well as a growing quantity of scallions, baby carrots and radishes. Edgwick Farm has fresh goat milk weekly. Simply Planted has gorgeous, hardy annuals. And SallyeAnder (unique soaps), Krazy For Kazu's, Red Barn Bakery and Strudel Z are all making extra visits this Saturday. Fun to see the season unfurl week by week at the Market, isn't it?

Phelps Health Tip:
Keep Things Balanced
Lead Sponsor Phelps Hospital Northwell Health shares the following: "Learn to balance acids-producing foods with alkaline-producing foods in your diet. Many diets are over-prone to create acids in our bodies which can affect bone health and decrease the body's ability to absorb minerals and nutrients. One food type is not better than the other, it's balance that is the key. Acid forming foods include meat, fish, poultry, eggs and grains. And alkaline forming foods include most fruits, green vegetables, spices, herbs and seasonings, seeds and nuts. So if you're having a portion of chicken (acidic), make sure to enjoy some carrots (alkaline) at the same time".
Farm Report
Over the next month shoppers will see asparagus, radishes, rhubarb and head lettuces, signaling that the fields, and season, have gained momentum. Until then our indoor-growing farms continue to provide fresh items every week. Little Seed Gardens is back with microgreens, herbs, radishes and arugula. Neversink Farm has fresh beets, carrots, greens, French breakfast radishes, kale, and wild ramps. Gajeski Produce has greens, herbs and scallions. And new items at Cowberry Crossing Farm this week are baby arugula, Asian salad mix, chives, nettle, sorrel and wild ramps.
Warwick Valley Winery & Black Dirt Distillery
Warwick Valley Winery is back with Doc's Hard Apple Cider, apple and pear brandies, natural fruit liqueurs, Black Dirt Bourbon and wines.

In The Village:
The Pleasantville Farmers Market was proud to support the recent Wellness Day events at Bedford Road School with an art project for 3rd graders. Over 100 drawings later, the Bedford Road School has a terrific resource of school lunch ideas that are both nutritious and delicious. Following their involvement in the "Eat a Rainbow" event in March, and efforts with in school garden, it's clear these kids are learning a lot about foods and health!
Thursday, April 27 (tonight!), Chef Terry of Lucy's will offer an evening of wines paired with chocolates. There is no fee! Simply walk in at 446 Bedford Road from 6:00pm - 9:00pm to enjoy Lucy's Chocolate and Wine Pairing event.
Saturday, April 29 is more than just market day, it's Independent Bookstore Day across the nation. Here in our community that celebration focuses upon The Village Bookstore. Stop in Saturday to support the world of books shared through the valuable resource of our own local bookstore.
