Rosenthal JCC to Close

The northern Westchester community center is shutting down, including its camps and programs in Croton, Pleasantville and Yorktown.

The Rosenthal JCC -- which has provided programs and camps and events throughout northern Westchester County for nearly 40 years, is closing down.

Changing demographics, bad economic conditions and increased competition have combined to make continued operations impossible, the center’s leaders said in a letter to the community.

“While heartwrenching, closing our doors is the most responsible path of action,” wrote RJCC President Jessica Morgenthal and Executive Director Ellie Aronowitz.

All operations will be wound up by June 30, 2016, including the Yorktown branch on Crompond Road and Camp Discovery on Route 129 in Croton-on-Hudson.

The exception is the Sunrise Camp in Pearl River, which is part of a national system of camps for children with cancer.
