INTENT is inspired by one of the most famous espionage plots in American history. In the play, the true story of the famous British spy, Major John André, is interwoven with the fictional story of Katje, a widowed tavern worker whose son joined the rebellion and is now missing in action. Set in a time when our nation was divided against itself in a deadly clash of convictions, this play explores the intersection between high-stakes politics and the raw grief of families losing fathers, brothers, and sons to a relentless, brutal war.

A cast of seven actors plays 20+ characters, including such noted Revolutionary War figures as André, Benedict Arnold, George Washington, Alexander Hamilton, General Nathanael Greene, Benjamin Tallmadge, and the Marquis de Lafayette.

3:30pm The reading will be followed by a “Tavern Chat,” an informal conversation featuring Rev250 historians Char Weigel and Marc Cheshire, YA historical fiction author Robert J. Skead, and Intent’s playwright, Mona Z. Smith. Peekskill historian Tim Warn will moderate the chat.
