Sal's Celebrates One Year with Discounts

Savings to be Introduced in September include return of 99-cent pizza slices on Mondays.

Competition in the pizza business on Marble Avenue and will respond with discounts in September to include 99-cent pizza slices on Mondays.

Danny Giardullo, co-owner with his uncle Sal D'Abbraccio, said, "In addition, we will have an offer that requires a coupon and a student special [no coupon necessary]."

Giardullo is not phased by on Marble Avenue, although both will serve pizza.

 at 59 Marble Ave. and Louie Linguine's Casual Bistro at 160 Marble Ave. are currently under construction. Louie Linguine's will open in a few weeks and A'Mangiare anticipates a late October or early November opening.

"We would have made the same offers to our customers, regardless," said Giardullo.

September marks the pizza parlor's first anniversary in Pleasantville. 

Sal's will continue its existing discount offers: 

  • Dinner for Four—Any chicken dish on the menu, such as chicken parmigiana, chicken marsala or chicken scarpariello, garden salad and choice of pasta such as baked ziti or cheese ravioli. ($36)
  • Family Special—Feeds at least three people. A large pizza, salad for two, penne pasta, eight garlic knots and a two-liter bottle of soda. This offer is available with a coupon only. ($26.95)

The student special may be a repeat of last semester's expired offer—a free soda with the purchase of two slices.

Pizza pies come in two sizes: small (six slices) and large (eight slices). 

A best seller among the 25 specialty pizzas available is the Napolitano (tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella, basil and oil), priced at $14.25 (small) and $16.25 (large). Other popular pizzas include Meat Lovers Pizza (sausage, pepperoni, meatball and ham, $16 and $18) and Hawaiian Pizza (bacon, pineapple and ham, $15 and $17).

Topping the popularity list for entrées, Giardullo said, are:

  • Chicken or Veal San Bernadino—Onions, mushrooms, sweet peppers, sliced potatoes in a white wine and lemon sauce, served with bread and choice of pasta or salad. ($13.50 for chicken or $15.25 for veal)
  • Chicken or Veal Francese—Egg-battered and sautéed in a wine butter lemon sauce, served with bread and choice of pasta or salad. ($13.50 for chicken or $15.25 for veal) 

Nine salads are on the menu. The most popular ones, Giardullo said, are:

  • Sal's Salad (mixed greens, dried cranberries, walnuts and gorgonzola cheese). $5.95 for the small size and $7.50 for the large size.
  • Cobb Salad (mixed greens, bacon, egg, avocado and American cheese). $5.95 for the small size and $7.50 for the large size. 

The best selling wedge, he revealed, is grilled chicken with broccoli rabe ($7.50).

Giardullo learned the business working part-time at his uncle's pizzeria in Carmel, opened three-and-a-half years ago. He is a resident of Hartsdale; D'Abbraccio lives in Mahopac.

The Pleasantville pizzeria has seven tables, each with seating room for six people, and a table for two outside.

Sal's Pizza & Pasta is located at 201 Marble Ave. in Pleasantville. It is open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., 914-769-1199. Free delivery for orders of $10 or more is available within a five-mile radius of the pizzeria.
