This Saturday: Apple Tasting Event!

The Market is open Saturdays, 8:30am - 1:00pm

This Saturday we're kicking off fall in Pleasantville (and the countdown to October 14th's Annual Apple Pie Contest) with one of our favorite autumn events, the Apple Tasting!

Wright's Farm and Mead Orchards are providing a peck of lot of apples (8 varieties). Our volunteers will chop those up to offer samples of each at our Health & Sustainability Tent. Learn which apples are best for applesauce, fresh eating, cheese plates, salads, and BAKING. Debate which apple is the best for PIES after tasting several ranging from tart to sweet in flavor. This is where you find your new favorite apple! And hopefully the variety you'll use for your pie in the upcoming Contest!

VENDOR HIGHLIGHTS

Mead Orchards has just-pressed apple cider in half gallons. They also have their cider in pints and clear (non-alcohol) sparkling cider in attractive cans.

Teagevity is ready to serve shoppers in our cooler fall markets -- they start their line of special fall hot teas, served by the cup this Saturday including Preston's Pumpkin Chai, Dirty Chai, and Apple Cider Ginger tea with Cinnamon. They also have their grab and go options of cold "Tea2go" in Hibiscus Pineapple, Blood Orange & Hibiscus, Strawberry Fields, Raspberry Summer Lemon, and Green Tea & Lemongrass.

Merchant's Daughter Ciderworks will be in with their 750 mg bottles of hard cider, as well as packs of smaller bottles. Get the taste of autumn in New York with some of their craft cider!

Dancing Spirits Herbs will be in with their diverse line of vinegars, herbal slaves, balms and more.

Right on time for fall, Trotta Foods will be offering their Pumpkin Ravioli, and they're also highlighting a fresh batch of Filetto di Pomodoro Sauce.

Bobolink Dairy & Bakehouse has delicious cheeses at this time of year. Try their Drumm, Frolic, cider-washed Amram and Cave-Aged Cheddar.

Pika's Farm Table arrives each Saturday with delicious quiches, soups, side dishes and appetizers for your week's menu. And they create authentic Liège waffles (yeast-based and containing caramelized chunks of pearl sugar, they're perfect for breakfast or dessert or a quick bite at the Market).

With fall's arrival, Edgwick Farm has new seasonal pairings with its Canterbury soft goat cheese. The sweet pairing is their goat cheese mixed with a fresh, pumpkin compote, a touch of honey and pumpkin pie spices for Pumpkin Spice Canterbury -- this creamy and tangy delicacy is like the best pumpkin cheesecake you've ever had. The savory pairing is their goat cheese layered with the smoky sweetness of roasted red pepper pesto.

Puras Paletas concludes their season at the end of October, so it's time to stock up. They have insulated bags to help you get a pack of their small batch creamy and fruit-based ice pops home to the freezer safely.

In celebration of the official arrival of autumn, Spice Revolution is featuring favorites for apple pie contest baking. Featured spices include ginger powder, Saigon cinnamon, Ceylon cinnamon, secret cinnamon, whole nutmeg and fresh Tahitian Vanilla Beans.

Demi Olive Oil has a new product from their farm in Greece: Arborgina olive oil! Spanish variety planted in their Greek soil. Used as a finish oil, Arborgina has a more delicate flavor than Demi's standard (Greek) olive oil, given it is very low in acidity (0.02%). Look for the RED Demi label to try out this one of a kind EVOO!
