Saturday: Tie-Dye T-Shirt Day kids event!

Place preorders from our vendors Tues, 7:00pm – Thurs, 7:00pm. Then walk up Saturday, 8:30am – 1:00pm, to gather preorders and shop further.

Last held in 2019, postponed 10/1 by rain, this super fun event is FINALLY back! This Saturday only, from 10:00am to 11:30am, kids can step in line with $10 and the courage to wear a smock, and go home with a custom tie-dye Market t-shirt. Shirts feature the cool Market character "Straw Barri". The best part is KIDS get to be the ones who applying the colorful dyes (with Market Intern assistance).

We welcome back artist Jessica Manfro for a Giant Pumpkin Carving Demo. Watch her one of a kind design develop and submit a raffle ticket (one per family) between 9:30-10:45am. The completed artistic pumpkin will be awarded to a lucky recipient soon after 11:00am!

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

At the Market's Zero Waste Station volunteers help shoppers sort items into three bins (compostable food scraps, recyclable items, and trash). The station decreases the amount of trash produced by the Market - a long sought goal!

This program was started by a Girl Scout for her gold award. Now it's our community’s job to keep it going, and we hope you will consider joining our volunteer team. Volunteers receive community service hours. Morning shifts are from 8:20-10:45am, and afternoon shifts take place 10:45-1:10pm.

VENDOR HIGHLIGHTS

Kiernan Farm: FINAL week of their 40% OFF Sale on beef London Broil steaks at $13.00/lb (reg. $22.50/lb), and a 30% OFF Sale on three items: beef kabob cubes at $12.00/lb. Teagevity is ready to serve shoppers in our cooler fall markets, with their grab and go option "Tea2go" in Hibiscus Pineapple, Blood Orange & Hibiscus, Strawberry Fields, Raspberry Summer Lemon & Green Tea & Lemongrass. Also, they've started their line of special fall hot teas, served by the cup: Preston's Pumpkin Chai, Dirty Chai, and Apple Cider Ginger tea with Cinnamon.

Orwasher's Bakery has Pumpkin Bread this week - preorder in PFM-O to ensure yours! Soft and just slightly sweet with hints of ginger and pie spice, this loaf is a fall favorite. Try it toasted with a slather of butter, or make some incredible Pumpkin French Toast on a cool October morning.

Pika's Farm Table arrives each Saturday with delicious quiches, soups, side dishes and appetizers for your week's menu. And they create authentic Liège waffles (yeast-based and containing caramelized chunks of pearl sugar, they're perfect for breakfast or dessert or a quick bite at the Market).

Ed McNamara of SOVA Farm encourages you to enjoy a hot cup of his Organic chicken broth now that the weather is turning cooler. 8 ounces for $3.50 in a covered cup, touch of salt and dried herbs sprinkled in. Ed also has his Thanksgiving turkey sign-up underway - stop by his tent for more info.

Puras Paletas produces small batch creamy and fruit-based ice pops with natural, unprocessed ingredients, Organic and locally sourced whenever possible, and free of corn syrup. Flavors include watermelon lemonade, strawberry mango, and chocolate banana. They have insulated bags to help you get your pops home safely to the freezer if you're stocking up.

Little Seed Gardens is giving a shout out to fall squash. Shoppers can now expect to see fall favorites such as Butternut, Honeynut (smaller version of Butternut with a rich, sweet, nutty flavor), Autumn Frost (specialty Butternut, creamy and mild), Delicata (a Little Seed favorite, super sweet, caramelizes nicely when baked, great sauteed), and Acorn squash (more mild and savory than Butternuts).

Spice Revolution is featuring whole cardamom pods. They add beautiful flavors and aromas to rice, lentil and roasted squash dishes. Cardamom also works great in a variety of sweet dishes for cookies, cakes, caramel and more. Find it under seeds and pods in their PFM-O store.

Trotta Foods now has both Butternut Squash Ravioli and Spiced Pumpkin Ravioli this week.

Edgwick Farm seasonal pairings (with their Canterbury soft goat cheese): a sweet pairing with fresh, pumpkin compote, a touch of honey and pumpkin pie spices for Pumpkin Spice Canterbury, and a savory pairing with New York's favorite breakfast spice mix to make Everything Bagel Canterbury. They also have lots of delicious bloomy rind Firthcliffe cheese, plenty of feta, a flavorful hard cheese called Funny Child, and this is the final week for their Anniversary cheddar.

Woven Stars Farm has some new items to debut. They now have Canadian bacon and English-style loin bacon. And they've also restocked in smoked, no-nitrate bacon, jowl bacon, bacon ends, and sliced ham.

For the fall and winter seasons enjoy Conant Valley Jam's Organic EVOO Infused with Ramps - wonderful as a salad dressing or on a sandwich.

Simply Planted Greenhouses is in for just two more weeks with lots of mums, all different sizes. Jumbo 10" mums $15. Drop-N-Grows $15 (or 2 for $25).

Whitecliff Vineyards will bring wines to the Market with Fall and Thanksgiving in mind, including their Gamay Blanc and Gamay Noir, all estate grown in their Hudson Valley vineyards. These are perfect for any harvest celebration like Thanksgiving dinner. The Gamay Blanc has a smooth richness that is great for the cooler weather and it is discounted this month to $18.99 (reg. $21.99).

Spirits Lab will be in Saturday with their fine distilled items, including premixed cocktails. They have only one more visit in November before they pause for winter. Check your supplies and and stock up now!

2022 Apple Pie Contest saw 33 pies entered!

Saturday, October 8, Pleasantville Farmers Market held its annual Apple Pie Contest. The day saw a great turn out by local home bakers, and a big crowd of community members seeking to enjoy the fall harvest, live music, the announcement of winners in four categories, and the sale of all pies by slice. The 2022 Apple Pie Contest winners: Best 2 Crust, Jules Putterman from Milwood, NY; Best 1 Crust, Tart, Crumb or Crisp - Jessica Schlesinger from Norwalk, CT; Junior Chef - Violet Coppola from Pleasantville, NY; Friends & Family of the Market (open to board members, interns, employees and their immediate family) - Market Intern Eli Neilson-Papish, from Pleasantville, NY. Prize bag contents were generously donated by PFM farmers and food artisans.
