So pick up the phone and invite some friends over-- there’s plenty to share from the bountiful summer harvest of vegetables, fruits and meats rolling into town Saturday at the Pleasantville Farmers Market.

Getting To The Meat Of The Market
Our farms offer a diverse selection of meats to consider for summer meals. Here’s a brief summary to get your attention -- follow it up with your own exploration of the Market. Captain Rick of Pura Vida Fisheries has squid, which is plentiful, affordable, and delicious when marinated in olive oil and herbs for the grill. Pura Vida has swordfish and tuna steaks too. Cowberry Crossing Farm has Certified Organic hamburger patties and ground lamb for lamb burgers. Kiernan Farm can also be counted on for grass-fed beef items including hamburger or steaks, as well as terrific pork items, and a number of interesting sausages (including hot dogs). Stefan’s Pure Blends has kielbasa for the grill, both Campanelli’s Poultry Farm and Yellow Bell Farm have great poultry items and Hudson Valley Duck Farm has fresh duck breast to consider, or their links of either Italian style or Rillette duck sausage, which are really special when grilled.
Market Full Of Items To Compliment Meats
Ardith Mae Farmstead Goat Cheese reminds us that finishing a steak, chicken or sausage with a dollop of chevre can be delicious and unexpected. Bobolink Dairy & Bakehouse notes that ciabattas can be sliced to make 3 - 4 unique burger rolls. Trotta Foods creates a bruchetta with fresh produce from the Market which can add a lot of flavor to tuna steaks and other meats. Or add flavor with wonderful chutneys from Bombay Emerald Chutney Company. And of course vegetables taste great on the grill too including corn, peppers, onions, summer squash and eggplants. If you get thirsty while grilling, enjoy some beer from Captain Lawrence Brewery, or wine from Whitecliff Vineyard - they’re both in this Saturday at the Market.
Phelps Health Tip:
Healthy Eating Within Reach
Market Lead Sponsor, Phelps Memorial Hospital Center, offers this helpful tip:
“When healthy foods are easy to see, people tend to choose them more often. Instead of placing fruits in the refrigerator, place ready to eat fruit on a table or kitchen island. Visibility and accessibility is key!”
Phelps Memorial Hospital Center will have a representative visiting the Market Saturday. Stop by to share your appreciation of their support for the Market and learn about the many services and programs they offer just 4.5 miles down the road from Pleasantville.

Two Things To Consider For The Table
First, this is a wonderful time of year to pick up a bouquet of flowers from The River Garden. Secondly, a beautiful table with flowers could look like Monet’s table if you pick up a rustic loaf of Bread Alone French Sourdough Levain. Their Levain is made with a mixture of 100% organic whole wheat and white flours. It’s the perfect mix of nutty wheat and palatable white, a crowd-pleaser for both sourdough aficionados and recent converts alike.
Conant Valley Jam: Wild Raspberry This Saturday
Some people call them Thimbleberries, or Wildberries, or Redcaps, but they’re really wild Raspberries. When picked, they look like a thimble that might fit on one of your fingers. Consequently, because they’re hollow inside, you need a lot of them to do anything in the kitchen. Conant Valley Jams’ Wild Raspberry Jam is available for the first time this weekend at the Market, and because the hot weather severely limited the harvest, there will be very little available. Two jar limit and please come early, as the jam will sell out quickly!
In Time For Heirloom Tomatoes
For heirloom tomato season Spice Revolution has a beautiful pyramid crystal salt from Cyprus, Greece that is their big feature this week. It has an awesome crispy and flaky texture. They will also have other salts including French Grey, Western Sicilian and Pink Himalayan.
Spoonful Of Sugar Bakeshop In Saturday
And with a new item: Popped Sorghum in super fun flavors like Buttery Crumb Cake & Super S’More. Popped sorghum is a high-protein and high-fiber, corn-free alternative to other snacks. Spoonful of Sugar will also have their full line of other items, all made in their dedicated gluten-free facility.
Trotta Foods Cut Pastas
Fresh, made with regional farm eggs, and just look at this line up of pasta flavors for Saturday: Beet, Kale, Cajun, Cilantro/Jalapeno, Porcini, Squid Ink, Spinach, Tomato and Whole Wheat. ...Yum!
