The Democratic New York State Senate candidate stopped by Atria in Briarcliff Manor Thursday.

As the November elections approach, Briarcliff Manor and Pleasantville residents are actively looking for ways to learn about the candidates and the issues.

Atria Senior Living residents in Briarcliff Manor are no exception and had a chance to meet Justin Wagner, the Democratic candidate for the New York State Senate District 40 on Thursday.

Wagner is challenging Republican incumbent Greg Ball (R, C — Patterson) to represent the newly-shifted district, which now includes the Town of Mount Pleasant.

In a meet-and-greet on Thursday, Wagner addressed issues ranging from job creation to women's rights and marriage equality, according to a statement from Atria.

"After Justin spoke, he opened the floor to questions and the Atria residents gave him questions on local issues as well as national and internationally issues such as the war in the Middle East," Atria Engage Life Director Ryan Linehan said in the statement.

Many Atria residents, Linehan said, have recently confirmed they are registered to vote in the village or have requested absentee ballots for the election.

“It was informative," resident Rosalie Kurland said of Wagner's talk. "I liked that he came in and spoke to our seniors about the issues.”

The visit followed other candidates' appearances at Atria, including a Westchester GOP representative who spoke on behalf of presidential candidate Mitt Rmoney and staffers from President Barack Obama's campaign.

“It was good to have him come in and speak," Atria resident Marie Liebold said of Wagner’s appearance. "It was nice to hear about the other side of the issues.”

Coming up, residents will have a chance to meet Congresswoman Nita Lowey and other politicians are also welcome to visit Atria.

"Our Atria residents are very engaged and active in the political discussions of the day and want to have their voices heard," said Linehan.
