Simon String Quartet in Concert Feb. 15 in Pleasantville

It's part of the Pleasantville Chamber Music Society's 38th season.

The Simon String Quartet will present a concert featuring music by Haydn, Mendelssohn, and Schubert on Sunday, February 15 at 3:00 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church, 400 Bedford Rd., Pleasantville, NY. The concert, which is free to the public, is the third in the Pleasantville Chamber Music Society’s 38th season.

The Program:

· Joseph Haydn: Quartet in F Major, Op. 50, No. 5 (1787)

· Felix Mendelssohn: String Quartet in E Minor, Op. 44, No. 2 (1837)

· Franz Schubert: String Quartet in D Minor, D. 810, “Death and the Maiden” (1824)

Fiona Simon, violinist with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, leads the quartet. She has performed as a member of the Academy of St. Martin’s in the Fields and the English Chamber Orchestra, as well as soloist with the Fires of London. As a recitalist, she has broadcast extensively on the BBC and performed all over Europe.

The other members of the quartet, all distinguished performers, are:

      • Sebu Sirinian, violin
      • Lisa Suslowicz, viola
      • David Makamjian, cello

Free parking is available at the church, in nearby municipal lots, and on the street.

The 2014-15 season is dedicated to the memory of Joe Goodman, the founding spirit behind the Pleasantville Chamber Music Society, who died last August. The Society, begun in 1976, is supported by the business and professional community and individual contributions.
